Great, the new part comes out, but its cold so the pump wont make crickets. Guess I'll be waiting until next spring!

Brought my car in today and they ordered the new fuel pump right away. I guess there's a pretty big demand for this new pump.

The service advisor gave me a chuckle though. He said that the last revision fuel pump only fixed the chirping in the BRZ not the FR-S. I'm like "but they're almost exactly the same car". He then goes on to tell me that they're completely different because of this and that. Sigh.

1. Different Front End
2. Slightly different suspension
3. Bunch of useless crap on the inside
4. "You're an idiot"

Order of options I would have presented this service person with.

Taking my car in today to get the pump ordered. It stays warm enough where I am to test it.

Sent a video of the chirps to my service adviser. She's ordering the parts and will let me know when they're in. Didn't even have to take my car in! I'll check on part numbers and match everything up.

Austin Subaru or G-Town? Just had mine done at Georgetown earlier this week and they had to order the part. Unfortunately the copy of the work they did doesn't include part numbers, hopefully I can get that when I take it in for that other issue it's having.

Oh, and chirps + woodpeckers are gone for now.

EDIT: Nevermind, just realized you have an FR-S and not a BRZ. :P

lol, np. Round Rock Scion though. I'll report back, but they verified the new TSB and said parts are being ordered. I hope I don't become like everyone else and just mindlessly have the fuel pump replaced over and over.

For those wondering if the weather change might change the crickets, it does at least in Nc in my case. Its been pretty cold even for this time of year and its supposed to be even colder day and night for the next few days. Drove the car last nite to the bar to watch the world series and it didn't start making the noise until it was 30 min into the drive, same with the drive home after sitting for a few hours it didn't start making the sound until I was almost home. Before it was always around 5-10 min tops of being started. Oh and I tried running a tank of 100% non ethanol thru the car, no difference still made the sounds just seemed like it took longer to do it and they were slightly quieter but then again it could have been the cooler weather so who the hell knows.

Upside is the dealer should have the new parts in 3-5 days but said it could be closer to 7 because of demand. They did change the old pump for a new old pump and this is why I ran the non ethanol thru the car just to see for myself and to let the dealer know it made no change. Spoke with another dealer who has already changed a customers BRZ to the new part number pump and they reported after 150 miles no crickets.

Today I had the crickets looked at by dealership where I purchased the car. He tried to shu me out of there by claiming "I can't hear it". Armed with the latest info on the latest TSB and new fuel pump part no. I made him come out and sit in my car while I started it and let idle. "Oh yeah, I hear it now" says the service associate .

The service guys have been trained to handle things this way. It's not their fault really. It still leaves you going away with a sense that the dealership fails to operate under a sound moral pretense.

I sat with him while he printed down the new TSB.

TSB S-SB-0023-12. Oct 17 2013

Old replacement part no. SU 003-00328

New part no. SU 003-05176

We walked over to parts and placed the order for new fuel pump and various assembly pieces that come with it. I should hear back in about 7 days which seems to be the standard time interval based on the previous post.

After the TSB was acknowledged by the guy we actually hit it off quite well. Nice dude.

Without this forum my life at the service department would be a living hell.

I will report back once the new HPFP is installed to report the verdict.

I have 8600 miles on my car right now. I bought the car 9/12 and had the chirping from day one. I had the HPFP changed out about a month ago and have since put a little over 700 miles on the car. I've used the same gas station from day one and after the fuel pump change I have yet to hear the chirping again.

I have 650 miles on my BRZ and the crickets have started. Took the car into the dealership yesterday and apparently, I already have the newest parts that were supposed to fix the issue. Since that was the case, a tech issue was opened with Subaru corporate on the matter. I was told to monitor for a while and see if it gets better. If not, I will have to bring it in and one of the corporate techs will have to come inspect the car.

The whole reason I'm going to the dealer this time is because it is a completely different part. Not just a revision. I'll take the chance this time as I usually hate the dealer touching my car.

I know that if I read through 100+ pages for the answer I might get it. But, I'll ask anyway. Is it a problem to not get the cricket issue fixed? I have been dragging my feet to call the shop.
