Take it from someone that used to run about 1 foot of exhaust after each turbo on a 3 liter... Your loud exhaust is not impressing anyone. I know, your high school buddies love it. Your 2-liter is slow. The exhaust volume should match it.

You know what's a whole lot more impressive? A fast car that's relatively quiet.

You will grow out of this phase. It just takes time.

Well you dont know that person. What if he or she is a teenager, obviously it is ok because it is so common. It is all about prefrences and if someone spent their own money for parts fir their own car then it should not matter what people think.

Well mine is pretty damn loud only because it is functional. I have HKS header with motiv front pipe that is catted, motive overpipe, and ark catback with a resonator. mind you I had a custom helmholtz installed on the front pipe to eliminate rasp and tone the drone down and my vortech.

Now do I purposely fly by people or sit next to someone then punch it? hell no. Keep it classy and tasteful. I try and keep bearable and be quiet in neighborhoods, but when I'm going on on ramps, Ok, it's game time. Opening it up is music to my ears with EL header, but being obnoxious is a no no. I guess it depends on how you actually contain or unleash the loudness. my .02 =]]]

Ignore him. Just another person on the internet saying "let me tell you how to modify your car"

He's here... complaining... about what people think. Obviously it matters to him. It should matter to him. He's drawing a lot of negative attention from neighbors and law enforcement for no good reason.

I'm simply correcting his misconceptions. While some people may assume you're "drunk or high" because of the volume of the exhaust on your N/A 2 liter, most people just think you're desperate for attention. The rational modifiers among us assume you're poor, a teenager, or don't understand the meaning of 'point of diminishing returns'... Or all 3.

What do you think of obnoxiously loud Civics?

Tesla model S. 0-60 in 4.2 seconds (performance model) with decibel level barely higher than a mouse's fart. Coupled with ridiculous amount of torque, it is a fantastic piece of engineering. If only the range was higher.

I agree that people shouldnt be told what to do with their car but the way I see it, the louder your exhaust is, the more attention you will get whether it be good or bad. I personally hate fart cannons on otherwise slow(er) cars, Screams too much LOOK AT ME HERE! Saw (or rather, heard) an 86 one time cruising down the middle of a busy shopping/restaurant strip at night. Heard the loud exhaust, saw the car and just grimaced.

Sorry, I'm not in a rush for our cars to be lumped in with the civics, del sols, and other POS ricers of the world. When your car runs high 14's (assuming you can drive), it shouldn't sound like it runs 10's. It shouldn't be covered in stickers as if it's a sponsored race car, and it shouldn't be lowered/stanced/hella-flushed until it can't be driven... And if you're going to make those mistakes (that all reduce the value of your car), you certainly shouldn't run to the internet complaining when you face criticism from the real world.

Vortech -- enough said

you have to ask yourself what it is about a loud exhaust that's attractive to begin with? It doesn't mean your car is faster necessarily. You like the way it sounds...ok...but when was the last time loud noise is public was a good thing?

Loud exhausts are associated with an "immature, I'm a show off that wants attention and everyone to look at me" mentality. That's not going to change anytime soon.

I plan on getting this crazy looking thing:

with Borla headers and a PLM over pipe. I'm almost 30, have never had a loud car, and have never been attracted to loud cars. I have to admit, I am a bit worried about how loud it's going to be.

But... function over fashion, as per always.

I like to think of it as chest beating. Like a gorilla.

Yeah that's true and impressive, but I also like some feedback.
To me, an exhaust that only "wakes up" when you push the car is ideal. Anything noticeably loud outside of that is just for big babies screaming for attention.

Why do people need high decibels while daily driving? You don't need feedback driving through a school zone (and I'd be worried if anyone did). Or while rolling around for a parking spot or driving through a neighborhood.
Noise pollution is a thing. Inconsideration is a ricer trait.

Oh, and I also hate Harleys. Screw those guys, they keep rearranging my furniture.

lol so many people greatly misunderstood the point of this thread. Let me be perfectly clear i dont give a shit about your opinion adam, or anyone else on this forum who is going to make giant sweeping generalizations when they clearly misunderstand the core concept of the entire thread. My exhaust does not sound like a fart cannon. My car is not obnoxiously loud when I am driving responsibly, which I do, not to mention my ideal shift point is 2500 rpm because that is my favorite tone and it is not obnoxiously loud. not to mention the improved gas mileage. so you can call me a teenager or someone who wants attention, but i am driving responsibly on open roads and letting it rip on closed courses. what i was wondering when I made this thread was to prove a point. that there is a double standard. You have loud exhaust and you rev it high your an asshole, yet if you have loud exhaust and you keep it locked down and you drive like a ***** it angers people.
