not that much different. generally, if you can work from home all the time, they can ship your job offshore pretty easily...

I work for a large company (can't say which) and I work in the Foreclosure Department. I handle Accounting and Client Invoicing (nearly all of it). For what I do, I don't get paid enough, but it will suffice and the atmosphere is great (showing up anytime you want FTW). That is my 9-5.

On the weekends and during the week, I take engagement/wedding photos. I love this job but my art has become a product and sometimes I dread now having to sit in front of a computer 8 hours and then come home to do another 4-5 hours on a different computer. Yes, it's an outlet, but its also very competitive (huh, who would've thought?) and you often don't get paid according to the quality of your work, rather it is based on how well of a salesman you are. Sometimes I am a shitty salesman, like my dad was when he first started. The pay is OK ($800 - $1200 for an average wedding). It is a bonus that I use to finance my toys (of which I actually have very few) and my rented house. Of course, the first few times people told me they were unhappy with my work I wanted to give up. This is a trap. There are so many times where you will encounter people you will not be able to please (I mean, just look at the threads on this forum titled "What DON'T you like about your FRS/BRZ), and you just gotta keep on truckin'. Those people that do appreciate your work will more than make up for it!

I also do payroll for my parents' business for free, although they occassionally give me money because they feel it is unfair to work for nothing. I just want their business to be successful, but hey, I'll take it where I can get it (and they are very fair with it).

I also write school papers (shhh...) for some people who are self-made and are taking classes for the degree and nothing more. I used to think that it is important to do your own work and learn for the sake of learning, but after making six figures+, really who cares? They pay very well, but are not consistent and are most often on topics that I don't know much about. I've written papers on religion, medicine, philosophy, psychology, business and more. I don't have a college degree .

Occassionally I still bartend (was doing that for about 6 years) when I am not photographing on the weekends.

I am almost always working, so if I do have the time to go out to a meet, it really is a rare treat. I wish I could have one job, but eh, we can't have it all. I plan on going back to school (I'm only 27) and changing all this, but you asked if we enjoy what we are doing, not what we want to do with our lives.

I can't say that I truly enjoy working so much, but have always been of the belief that hard work will ay off some time, so here's to the future and building that nest egg! :happy0180:

I work for a Rail Testing Company. We test rail road tracks all over North America. 98% of the time I love what I do, I am the compliance manager, but I am WAY underpaid.

I worked in research and development for IBM. Working with business partners and large accounts understanding their tech needs and applying IBM technologies to their solutions. For the last 10 years before I retired, I worked out of my home. Traveled the world and worked on some cool projects ..
The IT world is always in need of savvy people who can understand the technicalities and relay them to management types who just want a solution they can understand without all the nerd talk that goes with it..
You would be amazed at how smart people can be so stupid when it comes to real world stuff.
I started out as an assembler coder back in the 70's. there were only a handful of us in the country who could code 360 assembler. Coding now is more a commodity and farmed out to other countries.. Knowing how to communicate between developers and the architects is a good place to be.. But it's not an entry level position you just apply for.. The IT world is forever evolving and in need of good people..
I retired 5 years ago on my 55 th birthday.. Management was being taken over by the bean counters and work wasn't fun anymore.. So I got out.. Now I play with my investments and my toys.. Work is overrated!
Start somewhere.. Do it to your best ability... It will all come together someday..
I went to automotive and diesel college right out of high school.. Decided about 6 months after that I didn't want to be a mechanic all my life.. So.. I tried something different.. No regrets.. Good luck to you..

I thought for a while about being a mechanic after I lost interest in the college program I was in, but they don't make any money. I ended up getting a job selling cars, and now I'm 23, sell new Chevys all day, and am making close to 6 figures. It's a lot of hours, but I love cars so it comes natural to me.

I say that's pretty good for not having a degree.

I work in IT and absolutely hate it. I definitely wouldn't say it's the industry that's bad just this area (Atlanta ghetto-ville) and my awful company.

It also doesn't help that I pursued a degree in something completely different. I wasn't able to get a job after college in my desired industry so I fell back on IT and now 6 years later have only IT experience.

If you like IT and like working with your hands check out IT Network Technician jobs (or similar titles). These are usually positions where you do the manual installation of network equipment and cabling. Of course degrees help; however, some simple certifications could help you get in to the field. Also audio/video tech jobs exist as well.

Since I had to move for my wife's new job, I've been stuck with freelance 3D art gigs that allow me to telecommute, retail, and starting a game company with a friend. As much as I love the art stuff, the retail blows. But, it pays. I'm in a weird situation where it feels like all I ever do anymore is work.

Haha! No, I've been in Georgia since I moved from metro Detroit back in Ought three. I just moved from Atlanta to Savannah. While, it's great that my wife has a full time job that she loves, There's not much for me here job-wise.

I scanned the last few pages but I'm surprised that "Porn Star" didn't make the list of suggestions yet. HAHA

Go into heavy machinery mechanic / truck-trailer mechanic. Same thing, and actually very descent salary.
