No problem letting loose sometimes. I generally keep the car under 4k but all depends on the mood. I will push the car a little when I find a nice curvy road. Otherwise I drive normally. No need to be Fast and the Furious in our cars. Let the Civics rice on by trying to get you to race them.

I normally keep my RPM's at 4-4,500 unless I want better gas mileage or to keep it quiet. I also change my oil early as hell too depending on how abusive I've been. Haven't had any negative effects yet but we'll see. With proper maintenance I don't think there will be an issue driving it either way.

Thanks for the info. I've been wondering because there are certain engines (diesel, certain Porsche engines) which get seal problems if you don't run it hard. It's not that I don't want to gun it. It's just that this is my daily driver, and I go long periods commuting without high revving. I just wanted to make sure this was ok. To be safe, I'd probably better intentionally wring it out in the weekends

Um, OK...
Based upon the level of knowledge one seems to have (which is OK-everybody has to learn) I believe one will benefit from the additional knowledge. It may not answer the specific question but knowledge never hurts provided one uses it intelligently. Just trying to help dude. Just keep it up to and/or under the redline as indicated on the tachometer.

Honestly, sometimes I worry that if I don't redline the car once in awhile, I feel that the performance will degrade over time. Semi true since the ECU adjusts itself based on driving style. Probably no evidence to it though.
