i'd be curious to see a dyno with the stock intake installed and an ecu reset.

I'm curious about this too but don't know how john or rich feel about numbers being posted up. If they give the ok then I will post mine up because I'm trying to determine if mine is a bit of a factory freak or not...

I know the header and exhaust I can't change to get too much more gains, however would a CAI work or anything else you guys in US have found to give any further improvements.
My best explanation would be the dyno and the air. Some dyno's read high, some read low. Thats why internet dyno posts are largely pointless unless you are comparing how a particular mod affected the hp on a single car, for example:

Car A in stock form must go to Dyno A and get a reading, then do whatever mod then go back to Dyno A again. If Car A goes to Dyno B for the post mod dyno run, he could see a 20hp gain for a CAI if Dyno A shows a conservative number while Dyno B shows an optimistic number.

Another aspect to the variable hp numbers is air. Since air is less dense at high altitude, you will always make less power up high. Same goes for heat, air expands as it gets hotter, meaning you don't get as much air into the cylinder which means less power.

Basically for a perfect dyno location you want sea level in December where there is no air pollution. Higher elevation, high heat, poor air quality will always kill your hp numbers.

Nice numbers - I'm surprised you got that much of an improvement on pumpgas. Can you share any details on what additional mods were done on top of the stage 1 you dyno'd at around 250whp? Is it just smaller pulley/injectors/pump?

@Visconti
I have something to run by you, which has shocked us all in SA.
A fellow 86 owner has taken a Chinese cone intake pipe 100mm into 75mm, decatted the stock header and front pipes, NO software upgrade or tune, with the same 95ron on the same dyno I ran and has obtained higher gains than myself with the following mods?
Afe DIF, zeta intake, Borla header, HPC front pipe BRZ performance exhaust 63 mm and the StG 2 tune, my best dyno to date 173whp 196nm torque

Just from a home made cone intake and decatting the stock exhaust he has gained 20whp to 176whp 201nm torque.

I have not seen anyone post such gains for such a basic mod.

What are your thoughts on this?
If you want pic of the intake and dyno chart I'll post for you to have a look at.

Hey Ryan -

I know this has been an ongoing issue for you and we're starting to think there just has to be something else at work here. I would personally like to see your results - did you say you also have the results from this guy with the other mods you're describing?

The good news is look at the gains we just made *on pumpgas* with the new Vortech STG1+ kit. I mean they're phenomenal. I know e85 isn't really an option in your area, but these results were e85 results up until yesterday when we made them on 93. I know you've submitted datalogs too, but there just feels like there's something else off. Did you do the installs for all the mods yourself? Is there a shop you can go back to and have them do a once over on all the aftermarket parts to make sure everything is in check? Because I'll agree with you.. you should be making more power. Let us know.

Congratulations on amazing pumpgas numbers. I disregarded the centrifugal and roots blower options initially as I'd only seen results in the 230-240 whp range. Now that you guys are hitting 290 whp on pumpgas... that changes everything!

Hey Rich,
Good to hear from you again. I certainly did not post this here to complain about my gains, but to get your guys input into how a simple mod for under $250 can get more gains than what I'm getting and even most other tuned 86.

Regarding my mods, all have been fitted by Toyota and they have checked and confirmed no issues and running perfectly.
If you believe I'm not achieving the gains I should be, please ask John to check my data logs on a ticket I have submitted.
Our fuel is not the best quality and 95ron more likely equivalent to your 89 or 91.
Here is my last dyno run based on v1.13 vs v1.14b3

Just out of curiosity .. had you disregarded super charging altogether? Reason I ask is because you say you disregarded the centrifugal and roots blower options (btw, there is no roots blower option for the FA-20 platform I'm aware of.. those are usually used on big block/big horsepower applications) so were you comparing these results to turbo? Certainly you weren't comparing to a screw type blower right?

I think part of what it really boils down to is Vortech makes an excellent centrifugal blower. It's making good, reliable boost and it may have played just a small hand in the performance figures @Visconti was able to put down . There are definitely some additional components that helped achieve these results that will be part of our soon to be announced V-Tune STG1+ Vortech Kit. We should be posting details this week so STAY TUNED!

I have to show you guys this DIY intake mod along with decatting the stock exhaust has gained this individual more gains than most of ours mods and tune.
