Tried it on my mirrors just now....Well went to heavy, and it ran...cleaned up with window cleaner per the videos by 3m on youtube...worked well the residue I finished with WD40 and I'll give it another go later maybe....I was getting small droplets here and there which I tried to even out with more coats...not a good idea...I think I can go again and be ok...3 passes and call it good the nozzle kinda sucks compared to plasti dips buildup causes the dots to come out...I thought about using the plastidip nozzle on it...but not sure how it would work....

Dont think without letting it dry completely that you can do more then 3 passes....it will run....tried 2 coats on the mirrors...which were my test dummy I guess...and it ran. 3 passes non stop like 3m tells you

cause If you do same as plastidip,it will be hazy( I guess) I can recommend try small area first( IF you want to do 3or 4coat) . I did rear bumper it looks perfect . but the hood cause it is too large, hard to spray evenly. anybody lives in VA, coming to rolling status meet tomorrow, You will see my car. thanks. |

its not looking terrible...the plastic touched the corner when removing tape...and theres a blemish...but probably better the stone chips...probably take 4th of july to do the whole front end....taking my time and having an extra hand maybe. I want to see how it turns out I think the second half of the hood might have turned out with less orange peel to it...

After sitting in the sun for about an hour now...it doesnt look to bad....the right side was a little thinner then the left so at an angle I can see the orange peel. But the Left side is almost smooth. Standing in front of the car in the light its un noticeable though. With the sun being reflected and all. Im not displeased but I think I'll peel it off in a few weeks and redo it like I said. But overall hopefully itll protect the paint.

well you asked for it...BIG pics...
Now after sitting for 24 hrs...the orange peel isnt as bad...and the blemish you can see in the 3rd pic isnt terrible...it makes me want to redo it though. Its got a rubbery feel to it, not like plasti dip though. Feels tougher...the wheels on my TL are plasti dipped and its thicker for sure with the 3 passes on both. It comes out pretty thick...like their fabric glue for upolstry. I tried to show the difference in the drivers and passengers sides orange peel but it picked up the reflection not the surface itself and focused on it...gotta remember how to turn off auto focus. DUH its on the side A and M...any who...if I can get the orange peel to take later I will...its hardly noticeable like I said...Next go, I'll try and take a few pics...I think the hood is a great idea to cover fully as the 1 stone chip i have is halfway up the hood, not all the way through the paint and I dont think I can see it now with the film on there, but this would have prevented it...dont really want to tear the front bumper up so I kinda stay off the highway. After I do the film next weekend on the bumper I wont be as scared. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Edited with the pics of the peel... ![]() Passengers side...didnt put it on as thick on this side...went to fast and this is the result....might do a how to in writing on the 3M vidoes. They should write it all down not have it in a video.

on another note...http://3mauto.com/media/pdf/paint_defender_DFU2.pdf
They have a nice pamphlet here...Im thinking my hood was a little to warm. Will give it a go in the morning next weekend like I planned. Do the bumper and the hood the next day....Id like to do the mirrors as they might get hit by stones like you can see on my TL... |

Dang Fett...that looks much much better than I expected. You can barely tell it's on there. How's the gloss comparable to the rest of the paint? Pretty noticeable in the fender panel transition? Only thing I'm worried about is how the transition will be between my hood and fenders since mine is Raven. It looks as if it blends pretty damn good with your Asphalt

I just applied this last night, mostly following the instructions provided by 3M.
1 can was enough to apply all of the front bumper, as well as roughly 50% of the hood. There is about 1/4 - 1/3 left in the can, so an entire can would realistically apply 100% of the hood along with probably 1/2 of the bumper. So far the film looks great in the sun, you can't tell it's been applied. Granted, mine is on a SWP so the white "shines" more under the sun, and orange peel is less visible. For the $50 kit (and $20 can afterwards) it's actually a decent deal. Make sure you wax all over your car before application, so in case something does end up where you don't want it to, you can always clean it off easier. I did 2 coats of wax on the front end and after testing it briefly, it seems to peel off without issue. -alex |
