Lighting wiring

Tried searching but couldn't find. I want to wire a light to act the same as the dome light, but independent of it. Meaning, when I unlock the car or open the door, I want this light to turn on regardless if the dome light is switched on/off/door. Is this possible or do I have to wire it and be in sync with the dome switch?

It's possible to do tap the middle wire on the dome light connection.

I thought it wouldn't work with the dome switched off but I think I found confirmation to wire to the green power wire and red door wire in the dome switch.

Working with dome light wiring can be weird. Using the door ground might work--but it might cause your dome light to come on when you try to turn on your installed lighting.

I tapped into my door ground for my dome light in my last car (Scion tC) for some footwell lighting. They came on (and even faded out) with my dome light when my door opened, but when I hit the switch to turn them on individually the dome light would come on with them.

It's fairly easy. I've added lighted vanity mirrors to my car. Can post pics if needed.
