Circuit Motorsports Tuned Stock BRZ: +17whp & +12wtq
EcuTek Tuning for Subaru BRZ & Scion FR-S by Circuit Motorsports
We just finished Pro-tuning a local BRZ 6mt, the car only has a drop in filter and a muffler delete, using 93 octane. We achieved a 17 wheel horsepower and 12 ft/lbs. torque gain over the stock tune! Stock: 174whp / 151wtq Custom Tune: 191whp / 163wtq Stock and Tuned Overlay: ![]() We drastically increased low and mid-range torque, as well as dramatically reducing the dreaded "torque dip". Peak torque was increased by 12 ft/lbs. to the wheels, We provided more torque throughout the entire rev range, and the torque curve after the peak is extremely flat all way to redline. Peak horsepower was increased by 17 to the wheels, and the curve is very linear and builds smoothly all the way to redline, power was increased across the entire rev band. We did away with the stock tunes HP "Valley", our horsepower curve builds steadily to redline, giving smooth and strong power delivery! Keep in mind, this is basically a bone stock car. We did back to back testing with the drop in filter vs. the stock filter and there was a +/- difference of 1 hp, it was negligible over the course of 2 runs each. Also, the muffler delete was shown to have zero affect on the power numbers, but it sounds damn good! ![]() We are very proud of this tune as these numbers are in the very upper range of what we have seen on a stock drivetrain 86, from what we can tell we have the highest horsepower gain on an N/A 86 - BRZ - FRS with stock exhaust and intake system in place. Our Priority was to achieve maximum useable power while maintaining complete reliability and driving smoothness. We did not tune this car to the ragged edge just to achieve a big number, that's not how we do things. For this customer we also enabled the Launch Control feature, which he really like for Autocrossing. This gives you a programmable rev limit, which allows for consistent launching, and sounds really sweet! Please post up any and all questions, we will be very happy to talk tuning with you 86'ers [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_wmToSdM21Y"]Ecutek Tuned Subaru BRZ - Circuit Motorsports - Highest Horsepower Gain NA - YouTube[/ame] Last edited by Circuit Motorsports; 02-06-2014 at 08:08 PM. |

Sorry, it was a Mustang Dyno. The shop has it calibrated to read like a Dynojet, so the numbers are higher than a normal Mustang Dyno. We looked mainly at the Horsepower increase over stock, since every dyno will read differently anyway

With a header, over pipe and front pipe you're going to make a lot of people happy with 200+whp.

Will this tune also work for AT transmission?
Thanks. |

That almost works.... except that if the dyno is calibrated to read higher the gains will also be skewed by the same percentage as the baseline.... so if the baseline is skewed by 10% the gains are also skewed by 10% etc etc

Even if it was exponential by some factor, given a stock BRZ on other dynos have read ~168whp, and this mustang read stock ~174whp, the percentage difference applied to a 17whp gain would produce an approximate 16.4whp gain. And that is if the progression is exponential and not linear. We won't split hairs over 6/10 of a horsepower. The stock baseline run, and the tuned run were done on the same dyno, same day within minutes of each other, with the same dyno calibrations. In addition, these numbers were not corrected SAE or STD, which would have made the numbers even higher. This was done on a hot FL day with air temp at 92F. We stand behind our published whp and wtq gains, and the gains are what we've focused on, not the final numbers, because we all know you cannot accurately or fairly compare numbers against different dynos. If this is true then with full bolt on mods are we looking at 210ish whp on 93? Im looking to get headers, full exhaust, full pulley set, CF drive shaft, and CAI. I may be missing something, but hopefully with a tune on 93 i can get the car to be the way it should have been from the factory.

I have a feeling 210whp from this dyno isn't in the same ballpark as 210whp on the sprintex dyno. All bolt ons, tune and e85 will get you to "200whp" regardless of tuner(assuming they are good) I think. |

Predicting dyno numbers is a difficult proposition. All dynos read differently and cannot be compared against each other. Even dynos of the same brand. First and foremost, the dyno is a testing and tuning tool that will show you gains and losses throughout the RPM range while comparing runs done on that same dyno, and guides a tuner by showing the results of the tuning. The gains from a baseline run are what is most important.
This is a sticky in this forum and a good read on dynos: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20572 So, back to the whp question. Our stage 2 tune with full exhaust including headers will net a 20+ whp gain over stock, plus greatly improved torque, eliminating the torque dip. The realistic range on the above dyno is 195 - 205whp. An aggressive 93 octane tune done on the dyno could possibly reach the 210whp range (that's an assumption), but the highest stage 2 tunes we have seen are topping out right around 200whp. |

170-175whp is generally the range i see, i realize that dynos will vary from many factors including brand, temperature, and others things. Considering these cars are rated 200hp at the crank by the manufacturer i think 174whp would be pretty a accurate number. Have ya'll tuned alot of cars with full supporting bolt on mods? im hoping that the nameless unicorn header will provide better gains than all others currently out on the market, hopefully that'll be enough to add another 5whp.

It may make 200whp.... But I'm more interested in how long it will do it for...
Afr curve? |
