Torn between 2 shift knobs ...

Hey guys and gals,

So this is my first time purchasing one of these bad boys. How much does the weight of a shift knob affect your ability to shift smoothly? I'm torn between the normal and heavyweight.

http://www.shopflossy.com/products/grip-tape-redhead

Does it even make a difference?

Thanks everyone! Hope you have a good day. :happy0180:

In my experience, with some cars it does and others not really. I have a WC Lathe Werks knob now and while the shifting feels a little better, that might all be in my head. What I like about it is (obviously) the look, and also the fact that I can now get a better grip because of the shape I got. It really is a trial and error thing.

See if you can find someone selling a shift knob in the classified section of this forum and find a cheap one (they will probably tell you what the weight is) and find out for yourself. It is literally a 10 second installation.

Good luck!

I have the black version of the heavyweight with the griptape finish. Shifting changed quite a bit. I was skeptical, but feeling is believing. Noticable shifting difference with heavier knob. Shifts are smoother than stock.

It's all about preference, some like a heavy knob they can throw into gear, while some like a lighter knob since it can transmit more information/vibration to the driver that the heavier one would dampen.

I'm in the lighter camp. I used to have the TRD Duracon knob but that was too light. I'm using the WC Lathewerks Copolymer knob and find the weight and shape ideal for my hand.

This. I'm firmly in the "Lighter" camp. I like to feel every bit of the engagement.

I'm in the heavier camp. I have the Griptape heavyweight with custom BRZ engraving. And I love it. Buddy bought a BRZ and I drove it. The stock one is light, and I dont like it too much.

Definitely check out the group by from @Anarchy Motive ^^ Linked it above. 671 grams for a quality shift knob AND it's cheaper than the Flossy's at this group by price!

I have the heavy one. Check my build thread to see it. I like the way it feels and shifts.
