Hyundai Crash Almost Ruined Toyota Pikes Peak Project

Toyota is ready to race at the Pikes Peak International Hill climb next week, but we forgot to tell you that their project could’ve terminated before the actual race.

The automaker will race a fully electric vehicle at Pikes Peak this year and due to the isolated zone there, the team can’t charge the car’s battery pack from any electricity grid, because there isn’t a trusty one anywhere near the track.

And while the generator solution is out of the question for obvious reasons, Toyota Racing will charge its EV racer from a DC quick charger, a huge battery that can feed the car for several times.

Only that the car towing the DC charger to Pikes Peak had an accident with a Hyundai on its way and the DC unit was destroyed. Luckily, Toyota has a backup unit which will get there by plane from Germany
