Need help on tweeters

So I have an old set of B&W DM601 S2 bookshelf speakers just sitting around and figured I'd try them out in the car. I have the adapters coming for the drivers but have a couple questions on the tweeters. The first picture is the complete speaker with some sort of tube glued on the back. Second PIcture is just the front. Third is with the tube taken off showing a hole stuff with foam. Fourth is all the pieces and there is also foam in the tube.

So, with the tube connected it will not fit in the dash. What s the tube and foam for? How can I emulate this when installing in the car?

Thanks

Did you try installing the speakers after removing those pieces? I'd bet it's so the tweeter has the proper air volume to actually produce decent sound quality. Think about why sub boxes are measured out to specific volumes, but on a much smaller scale. If they sound fine without that piece, then I have no idea.

Did you look to see what ohm load these are? If you start mixing ohm loads it can screw up your amplifier. Also, the foam may be a dust barrier.

Both tweeters and drivers are 4ohm.
