HELP!! Engine Swap for 2013 Scion FRS
Anybody knows any cheap or reliable engines that can fit my current stock automatic transmission from my 2013 scion frs. I tried to get the dealership and corporate to help me cover the damage of rod knock but they declined me 3 times im done with this fa20 engines too many problems I have read about the early fa20 so this is just me that I cant trust any fa20 anymore
So if anyone can help me suggest a good engine swap that I can afford using my stock automatic transmission. That would help me alot something to get me from A to B. Sent from my SM-N975U1 using Tapatalk |

If you're tired of the FA20, it'll be cheaper to sell the car and get into a different platform than to swap this one. I'm not saying this to be a ****, I'm serious- There are no easy engine swaps

Welcome to owning a 7 year old car and all the fun that goes with it!
The vast majority of us have had trouble free experiences. You only read about the failures not the good news and that skews the perception. Engine swaps are not cheap nor easy no matter what YouTube may look like. You don't pull one out and drop the other is with just worrying about whether the tranny will bolt on and nothing else. Just grab a later FA20 and enjoy. Even that won't be "cheap" though.

As @Tcoat said, you shouldn't have issues with the engine, honestly. Get a 2014 or 2015 with the wiring harness and get it swapped in by a shop. Save up for a while and get a nice low mileage example. If you leave it stock ( No crank pulleys or air intakes!) it should last you a long time if you really love it. I love my car to death and would never leave this platform, as much as I've wanted to in the past two years- it'll be worth it though, there are no other cars like this one. |

Thanks for asking the question and thanks all for the sensible responses. I'm in the same boat and dealing with this right now also.

To be honest, that is not a lot of excess sealant. You are squeezing two machined flat surfaces together, where do you think it is supposed to go? There is a grove on the inside of the cover for it, but if any gets on the mating lip, it just gets pushed out. It looks to me like most of the issue is lack of care when they scrapped the old sealant off.

That isn't a lot of visible excess on the outside but if that is his oil pickup tube I would be raising hell to get them to cover the new engine, that is BS. How do they propose all that RTV got on the pickup tube if it wasn't due to the repair?

Nope, it blew 1 month and 4k past the 12 month warranty on the recall work. The dealer passed me off to SOA who told me that the car is already past its expected service life (138k miles) so they would have no interest in helping me to solve the problem.
