Anyone have a Pioneer ts-wx610a Spare Tire Sub?

Looking to add just a bit of bass to the factory system in my 2017.
Not looking for anything crazy, just enough to fill it out some. I will replace the head unit eventually also.

One of the main things is I do not want to take up trunk space.
The only things I have come up with is a Pioneer TS-WX130DA

to mount behind my drivers seat, on the font of the rear seat.
I think this will BARELY fit, as in, the back of my seat will be touching it. There is only 2.5" between my drivers seat and the rear seat.
No, it wont fit under the seat, I dont think there are any that will

This same sub would actually fit well on front passenger footwell, in front of where the passengers feet would be.
It would be very visable though, not sure if that would look dumb or not.

So the only other option I have come up with is the pioneer ts-wx610a,
which is meant to mount inside your spare tire. You keep your spare in place, and place the sub down in it.



Was curious if anyone has this sub, if it fit properly, and how it sounded.
Or, if you have any other suggestions. (yes, I know of the OEM Audio, not wanting to pay that much, and a bit overkill for what I am after)

Well, unfortunately you have to comprise when it comes to bass.
If trunk space is a major concern then your right on that under the seat sub.

Do not put it in the passenger foot well, your just asking for your car to get broken in.

I for one am not a big fan of the oem+ mainly cause I can price out the same set up for far less. But, if you want super simple plug and play then you get your money's worth on labor and hook up.

But.... fear not. Not all hope is lost. What many people forget and hardly take advantage is the huge odd space behind the rear baby speaker. If rig up a safe way to mount that under the seat sub, Bobs your uncle, your good.

I was going to go that route, but eh $40 10" slim fit sub box and basic $80 Pioneer amp and a little compromise, 2 hours later with a beer in one had and I was rocking and rolling down the highway.

I have no experience with the unit you posted, but I have looked at it before. I went with the jl stealth box.

Really the only appeal of the OEMAudio to me is that is seems to fit the shape of the trunk well and stay out of the way.
Same with the JL Stealth Box, that seems really nice also.
But, both are a decent bit more than I am wanting to spend on it, plus honestly I think they are over priced for what they are. The JL isnt even powered for that price?!

Never thought about the area behind the laughable rear speakers.
Didnt know there was that much space behind them.
I am sure I could find a way to mount something like that small Pioneer I linked, but it seems it would be very prone to vibrations and rattles in that location.

The Pioneer spare tire sub seems to be the best fit for what I want,
just sucks that you can NOT get it in the US. Not that I havent ordered over seas stuff before, but there would certainly be no sending it back it I didnt like it, or if it didnt fit.
Still tempted to try it though.

Have you tried seeing a stereo shop for a customization quote for either location? I know that custom fiberglass boxes for spare tire locations are actually reasonably common for them. for the behind the rear panels space, its there, and its been done, but according to those that have, tuning it just right can be.. a challenge, as its an awkward space. I think every one I have seen is a sealed setup for that reason anyways.


But yea, maybe find a local shop and see if they will quote you for a custom fiberglass box in either spot?

No shops like that around here, well probably a few in PA, couple hours away.
Again, that would be a nice option if I was wanting to go all out and make the thing really thump. I just want a fuller sound.
Shame the back speakers are so worthless. just having a decent set of rears might help the car out alot.

the stock amp only powers the door speakers.


it is possible to upgrade this amp, and the door speakers, something like a Dayton audio 6.5 or a silver flute 6.5 could be installed to increase the bass/midbass response area, but the doors start to rattle very quickly wiould a fair bit of sound treatment. if you go this route, I recommend looking at adding sound deadener around the window switched first, the little suckers make way more noise than you would think possible.


This route isn't necessarily much cheaper, but is a little cheaper, and does save on space use and weight.


pioneer and alpine both make 15A mini amps that can be bridged to 2 channels for 90W each. The alpine unit (ktp-445u) is popular on this forum. you could just upgrade the amp alone for a modest boost, this will introduce some highs too as the stock amp has a built in crossover. without that the door speaker will roll off the highs naturally. this isn't necessarily a bad thing, just something else to consider. if you want to upgrade and retain close to stock tuning, an inductor could be wired in line to server as a first order crossover on the output side of the amp before the speakers.




for my personal build I have something similar to this, I'm using a 445u bridged, wired to 3way passive crossovers that power both my doors and dash. its import still to know though that in the stock setup the dash is powered directly off the head unit.

Oh!, an additional thought. you might be able to find a used spare wheel sub from another make of car that might work, iirc, the acura rsx for example had these things as a stock option. no idea if it would fit, but it might?

Thanks for the info! Good to know how that factory amp is actually setup.
Like most things, quite a few ways to go about this.

I would also like to replace the head unit one day, and I know in other vehicles that has made a huge difference in itself.
So i might even look into doing that as one of the first steps. I adjusted the EQ and other settings the best I can on the stock head unit.
It sounds way better than it did when I got it, but still not where I would like it.

I have some leftover sound deadener from another project. If I do replace any of the stock speakers I will be sure to place some of that in the doors.
