Can this tire be repaired/patched?

I have 225/45/17 Continental ExtremeContact DW tires and one of them go punctured by a razor blade tonight. I drove on it maybe one block to back to my house, luckily it wasn't at the start of my 30 mile trip.

I pulled it out with pliers and it seems about 1.5" of it went in. Also cut up some tread side to side. Can this be repaired?

I got these tires recently and only have about 9000 miles on them. I don't think they make this tire anymore, it's been replaced with a new model line.

If not repairable, should I just replace two tires to keep them in pairs or try to resell the other three good ones and then get an all new set?

Won't know until you dismount and look from the inside. Usually 1/4 inch or smaller puncture is repairable if the belts inside were not damaged. My guess is the tire needs to be replaced. I am cheap so I would just get a new pair. Set of 3 tires are hard to sell.

235/35?/17 40?45? That is a odd size.

Ah they're actually 225/45/17.

Maybe i'll get their replacement, the Continental ExtremeContact Sport. Just to keep them in pairs. I'll find out tomorrow, thanks!

A good tire place will look inside and let you know. Never patch the sidewall, but smaller holes can be reliably patched.

I wouldn't patch it. I'd be afraid with it being a slice it has the potential to spread.

Get two of the newer compound and run them together, it's not going to be *that* different.

I was going to bring it in to a car shop today but then realized I bought them from tirerack and there is a 2year free road hazard coverage. Read the terms and they'll cover the full $82 I paid since the cut is over 1/4". Will be going with the ExtremeContact DW's successor, two Continental ExtremeContact Sports. Is there anyway to find out if the same tire size will still maintain the same overall dimensions? I know at times even though tires are the same spec, 225/45/17 in this case, the sidewalls are still a bit taller than others of the same spec.

Actual dimensions of the tire are on Tire Rack.

I'm pretty liberal when it comes to driving on plugged/patched tires, but I wouldn't trust a slice as deep and wide as that one. Who knows what the internal belts look like and how much has been cut...and the center of the tire holds a pretty substantial load, radially.

In my opinion, you're doing the right thing with a pair of the new ones. Put those on the front. Then when you've worn out the existing remaining pair of the old DW's you can add another pair of the new ones and they'll be relatively the same all around.

I run the same tires on my 18" TRD wheels and I'm just about to pull the trigger on a new set of the DW successors. Supposedly a much stiffer sidewall.
