European cars are cheaper in Europe. A MINI isn't significantly more expensive (%25) than the other subcompacts like it is here. |

No, unfortunately not. America get's European cars cheaply, not sure why. Maybe some kind of marketing but that's how it is.
You all must be rich. This Toybaru will cost at least 40k€ here + taxes, i guess.. SO PLEASE DO NOT COMPLAIN ABOUT THE PRICE OF ANY FOREIGN CAR. Thank u. |

I don't work in manufacturing either so i used to agree with you but the truth is all economies need to be diverse to be healthy. With the loss of manufacturing the US economy has grown to reliant on making fake money thru financial services (wall street, lehman bros) and shady real estate investing. In the US we've been using credit to buy all the world's goods but now that we're all broke we can't borrow any more money. And now all the countries that are overly reliant on exports are screwed because we don't have anything to buy their stuff with. Simply put today's trade imbalances are unsustainable and hurt both the exporting and importing countries. Sry to go way off topic thats the last time i'll mention politics here.

Supply an Demand. Exactly that. Largest market, more buyers less price, companies still profit. smaller market, less buyer, jack up the price, companies still make profit. they wont have a set price worlwide because every country has a different economy. Its like money...the more physical paper money an economy has in circulation the less its gonna be worth along with how others are.

One reason European cars appear to be more expensive in the US, is that European car manufacturers don't offer the base model trims here. With the exception of VW, I can't think of any European cars that aren't considered 'luxury' here (maybe mini, but those aren't exactly cheap, either). In Europe, you can buy BMWs without leather and with 4 cyl engines. Can't really do that here.
There is also a lot to be said for differences in taxes, fees, certification testing, marketing costs, dealer networks, and importing costs. |
