Won't be that much different, and the added power/torque can help keep the rear end rotated when needed.

Hundreds of cars, hundreds of customers, different model years and engines, every different demographic you can think of...

My conclusion: No thanks.

When has Subaru offered engine choices for their WRX STI? That is the closest car I can't think of as an example for the BRZ STI. Sure you can offer engine choices in Legacy and Forrester cars due to volume. But a specialty car like a BRZ STI? I doubt it. I don't want a tubo BRZ STI to take away from my chance at a light weight NA car.

I didnt realize this topic was about the BRZ STI model. That would be a specific model so it would have to be either one or the other, I understand.

In that case, Subaru's Turbo engines have awesome performance capabilities, both new and in the aftermarket... if you want N/A enjoy the N/A model. I couldnt see Subaru Technica International having any other REALISTIC option for this car.

Im betting that BRZ's with boost will blow away any N/A variants in performance abilities.

Only if you get 350 PS or more from the turbo, in all other cases not really. A 300 PS NA 2.5l H4 would be as good and lighter.

Stock compression is really high for FI but like any motor, whether it was built with boost in mind or not, there is one thing that will make or blow the motor... TUNING.

Man, I go away for a couple of days and this thread has exploded.

It is interested that this has slanted into a Turbo vs. NA vs. Godzilla thread.

I love turbos, I just don't love turbos on engines that came NA, and especially not with 12.5:1 compression.

My main reason in starting this thread was actually because of the realization that the Turbo version of the BRZ is going to have to cost more, and most likely thousands of $$$ more than the NA BRZ, and that bump in price is what pushes it out of the range that I think really makes sense to spend for this kind of car.

FWIW, if the BRZ came with a 1.8 L Turbo engine stock, and still only made 200 hp, that would be a completely different car at $24,000. And I'd still be all over it.

I think I have also decided that the ultimate STI version of the BRZ would only have about 30 hp more, but will also weigh 200 lbs less...

230hp + 2400 lbs... That would be pretty awesome.

Okay back to your regularly scheduled programming...

I agree with you completely, but 2400lbs these days is a bit of a stretch; even more so on a 2-4 vehicle =/. With the stringent safety standards that vehicles need to meet these days I don't see that happening on an already lightweight vehicle.
I mean, that's stepping into lotus territory and if you're familiar with the elise and exige you know what they needed to do to make the vehicle as light as it is (if there's anyone that isn't familiar with them google the interior on both cars and you'll see what I mean)

If kids do to these what they do to Honda civics you may see a few in the 2400lb range. No interior, holes in the bumpers, Pepboy power adders...oh yeah.

Nothing like compromising the structural rigidity of your chassis to really make you feel like a racecar driver

If you mean lb instead of hp, then I must disagree: bumper beams, battery, wheels, and exhaust should do the trick to meet that request(might not be cheap, but easily possible).

I do agree that this car will already have many components that have been developed with weight considerations.

All I want is 10lbs per horsepower. I don't care if it's 240hp at 2400lbs or 220hp at 2200lbs.

I'll be removing as much weight as reasonably possible for a daily driven street car. My last 'car' was less than half the weight of an Elise.
