I was right. $510 a wheel for 17x7.5/14.9lbs. I can just get some affordable RPF1s and be fairly close to that weight.

marginal utility

you always pay more for that extra 1% when it comes to weight savings

Right. I feel like i'd be happy enough with the affordable wheels which come close to the lightness. Although it has to be said, the more expensive wheel is better looking.
