Just purchased Zeta Inlet hose and Works Filter (Used) for $65

Summary of why I'm buying them -

1. Filter I'm going to have to replace by OEM filter anyway, might as well go with a high flow filter, has been dyno proven to make 2-3 hp, not bad for $60. Intake induction sound is something I do like in my brother's 8th gen civic. Mpg wise it's shown to have a slight increase.

Zeta Inlet Hose - Well it come's with the filter might as well spend an extra 15 for extra "Performance". Zeta inlet tube is smooth as a baby's bottom compared to Perrin inlet tube creating less turbulence, honestly think this piece is very negligible hey $60=4hp= $15/HP also with a tune I expect to be making around 6hp, but I'd like to keep my numbers conservative.

I have a cosworth filter I can sell you on the cheap it was on the car for 4k miles or so before I went turbo. Hit me up if youre interested. Power gain is not much but throttle response is so much better with inlet tube and filter. Dont waste money on other intake systems

A few things happened these past weeks:

1. Bought Works drop in Filter and Zeta Inlet Tube for $65
Sold Inlet tube for $65 = Free Works Drop In filter
Free Works Drop In = 3-4Hp for $0
Or I could've went 5-6hp with inlet tube for $65 = $12-13/hp

In my eyes the inlet tube although is a nice cheap mod to do felt practically the same as the drop in filter, other than slightly faster throttle response so I sold it... Lol

2. Flashed OFT E85 tune - Review
Best way to sum it up is stage 1 Octane Tune multiplied by 2.

-The Torque Dip is still there but hard to notice.
-Every gear this car pulls.
-Exhaust note is quieter
-More torque and Hp everywhere
-About 20% less mpg
- E85 costs $2.83, 91 Oct costs $3.55. 21% Margin so technically profiting 1% in margin (;

Really like the approach.. I seemed to have swooped up that "OFT/OFH for under $800" deal from you since I got an OFH NIB for $400 shipped and the tablet from another for $400 shipped a couple months back.. keep looking! I think you'd really like the performance gains of a catless header and E85. Is it worth the extra $400 on your already tight budget definitely is your call, though.

It takes 1 hour or so with basic tools to change out for SMOG... yes, running costs increase $60 bi-annum or so for new gaskets, but we pay to play, don't we? And how much is a good meal nowadays?

keep on mate, nice looking rig for $$ spent so far

Damn you got a good deal haha. From this thread, http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=55450, like you got a good 33HP for 800 on E85. $800/33 = $24.24/HP. Awesome deal!

The with similar mods as this guy (Difference being he has a catback and I have catless front pipe) I hope to make 191HP with my $525 spent haha

Besides the numbers, I really feel this is enough power for me. I've noticed running E85 that my car is lacking driver input on my daily commutes. Its awesome being able to pass people in 6th gear but what makes this car so fun is that its meant to be a 10/10th's car. From the power I gained i'm starting to see less and less driver input, such as dropping to third for passing power without breaking laws. I'm happy that I'm still able to do that with my power gains.

Now all I'm really looking for are $200 Power blocks, this way I don't have to rev so high, waste gas at higher rpms, and increase motor longevity because the motor doesn't have work so hard for power. Really like that this mod increases pull in the lower and midrange bands.

Either that or I buy another Inlet hose but with a curved tubing hopefully I snatch one for $50.

Patience is a virtue when being cheap haha

wouldn't waste your time with power blocks.. spend the xtra $200-400 on a quality used header. Not only are the power blocks harder to tune for, their performance is significantly cut when tuned

Yeah true. What's awesome about headers is that there's power all across the band. I honestly think going with a header is the next cost efficient way to get power after deleting the secondary cat, k&n filter, and going OFT E85.

$525/25hp = $21hp. Not too bad? Hope something comes out that allows me to keep it at this rate because the only thing I'm seeing is an inlet pipe, and even those unlike the other mods I've done only increase tq/hp in a very small rev range without a header back system.

This is according to Perrin

The problem with trying to look at this as a "HP per $" gain is that most of the inputs to these metrics are peak, not area under the curve, horsepower gains.. therefore these analyses do not wholly explain the driving experience as a whole.. I doubt an inlet pipe or even CAI would bring a realizable gain. What would be most important is a quality tune, or learn to tune it yourself with opensource tools. I chose the latter, and am having a blast

also refer to Shiv's experiences with power blocks and E85

Awesome, OFT and taking out the secondary Catalytic Converter should improve HP all around power band. Atleast thats what I saw with in the dynos. I really hope to learn tuning it myself! Just don't know where to start lol

Surprised the red e85 car kept up for so long. Maybe better shifting/launch? Do you know what mods they have?

5/4/16 Update:

Just installed my 4.56 Final Drive with Mtec Shift Springs:
-Shifts springs were noticeable, I would say it made a more refined shifting experience.

-4.56 Final Drive, an amazing modification! It does change a lot of the driving, 6th gear is enough to pull through traffic, 4th is brutal and 3rd gear is limited to 77mph with my 7650 redline. You do feel the torque and it makes pressing the throttle a lot more rewarding!

-Milltek Exhaust sounds slightly raspy when you get on it, but great and rumbly for light revs. The way i like it.

-TRD Intake added the throttle response I was looking for while adding some low-mid range power.
