DSG is faster, but it's boring (and maint is not cheap either). So if laptimes are key or you drive in a lot of traffic, go for it. Drives me nuts from a stop though.

Had to get an auto in my SUV, but I can accept it there.

It doesn't, for those of us who don't have difficulty depressing the clutch pedal.

the autobox in the FR-S is quite good. blipped downshifts, and higher response upshifts.

No doubt true but the longer gearing seems to drop it into a torque hole at one or more points (according to Evo).

difficult in the broad sense of the word

i don't find it difficult,

i don't find it difficult to put my pants on every morning either, but imagine how nice it would be to not have to.

depressing a clutch is not what seperates a good driver from a bad driver, and like i said my view of enjoying to drive a car is getting the car to do what i want it to do. Traditional manual gearboxes have been part of that equation since the brith of the car, but we are at a point where technology is helping us eliminate that little part.

We get gearboxes that shift when you want them to without you doing anything, so you get to focus more on the driving.

i guess the steam engine is a real drag, i mean before people had to like do things by hand n shit, let's all go back to those times, ehh?

Well carry on with that track, and why not have someone do the steering for you (like an autopilot on the new Google car) or automate the brake/gas?

It just depends on where you "end" the act of driving. For me, in this type of car, shifting and clutching is just as much a part of it as the steering wheel.

That's one of the reasons why so many drivers don't like the GTR - it automates too much to the point it's like driving a playstation. The act of driving is more than just the most efficient.

Again, I agree that a DSG/PDK will get better launches, better 0-60 and better lap times. I just don't care.
