Yea, its still the same.
Yea, I remember punching holes in my dad's Buick's muffler back in the Sixties so it would sound better. He did not appreciate that

In my youth .... drag racing or racing light to light was popular. I remember mods back then were rear shackle kits, traction bars, fat tires in the back, skinny front tires, big tack on the steering rack. my all time favorite was any V8 with a big blower sitting on top. I love the sound of the blower whine.

Where the traction bars those things up on the leaf springs ? I had a friend with a mustang who swore they were wheelie bars. Didn't have the internet to prove him an idiot in the 80s

iirc they were mounted on the leaf springs to prevent the rear axle from twisting or torquing during heavy acceleration. They are not wheelie bars.

As I recall, what is usually referred to "traction bars" (a common brand was "traction masters") was a bar or another configuration of metal, that attached under the block where the rear leaf spring attached to the axle and on the other end, attached to the frame, forward of the rear wheels.

This prevented the leaf springs fron "winding up" under torque from the driveline.

I'm guessing "wheelie bars" were attached to the frame on one end and had "little wheels" trailing on the other end to prevent mostly "funny cars" from raising too far up in the front when coming off the line.

OMG - it's PAST time for ma meds and ma nap ....

This made me think about when I first got my FR-S. I had just come out of a 89 240sx that was a project car that had no AC, no heat, manual windows and a leaky roof. While I was driving it starting raining and I immediately thought "Crap!" and looked at the roof where the 240 used to leak. Once I realized I was in the FR-S I thought "what a great car, it's lots fun and the roof doesn't leak! Plus I have all this fancy stuff like ABS and Power windows" It's all about a perspective I guess.

My first car was was '69 Mustang also, and I still have it. And mine broke down all the time also.

You must have lived on the "right" side of the tracks!
We had to walk to school in the snow barefoot and it was uphill both ways.

I love the minimalist approach fo the fr-s.. but i must admit I'm one of the ones that went on a rant about poor quality. Rattles and whatnot, I can live with, but a new car that can't even idle straight, to the point of stalling, that gets at me a little bit.. But still love the car and although it's stored for winter, I go sit in it every time I need to relax...
