I've seen reports of -15F cooling with the Forester cooler, but also this report showing no cooling: https://www.ft86club.com/forums/show...2&postcount=17 Anybody know how effective it is for continuous track usage? |

Seems to be quite effective at keeping temps within 255-260F. And again... this is considering that it's being used for track purposes too. That sounds like a great improvement over the 270-290F+ people reach without a cooler.

There's a seal around the perimeter of the cooler to address that issue. I regret not taking more photos as it went together.

1. It will be perfect for ALL DD's. 2. It will be great for MOST/ALL light track or autocross racers. 3. It may need an upgrade when going to more extreme/competitive tracking. The car isn't designed for anything extreme, so if you fall into the 3rd category, you are likely upgrading a bunch of stuff anyway, which may include getting a better oil cooler. Also, since I know little to nothing about it, I am curious as to whether it is the same exact cooler as the ones in the WRX and Forester, or if it is modified in some way to improve temps particular to this car? |

This particular cooler will have no meaningful effect on track. |

I was seeing 130C within 2 laps with this type of cooler when I was driving the Cusco FRS, which uses the Cusco cooler, which is similar to the OEM type.

https://www.nedautoparts.com/product...oem-subaru-brz This kit connects to the 2 coolant ports on the throttle body, but I've heard of a more correct way of hooking up the lines via different ports on the engine. I'm not sure if the "correct" way would've yielded any lower temperatures though. Also regarding light tracking: I had my car for 4 years before it ever saw the track and I always wondered what exactly that meant. I didn't look at my oil temps on my first track day which was probably bad, but on my 2nd day I was hitting 280F in 90F weather within 9 minutes. I would let off the gas to cool stuff down, let 4-5 cars pass me etc...finally get temps down to 260 and then hammer it until I catch up with another car. The car waves me by and I floor it but I look at my gauge and bam its right back at 280. This guy is determined to let me pass as I want to cool down so we both slow down and take the next corner together. It wasn't fun having to worry about that kind of stuff, which is why I realize there really is no light tracking unless you are ok with dealing with these sort of situations. I was told by my local mechanic that you want a cooler if you "want to run your fastest laps", which is what I want to do, and why I ultimately went to a Perrin cooler. |

For anone that is interested in the Forrester OEM oil cooler, check out the post below. It has all the benefits of oil cooling yet with no pressure/leakage problems. Just you have to do a lot of custom work which I am not willing to venture into.

For DD use I'll he grabbing one which seems perfect for a all weather car. I'm thinking maybe I'll just run a 5w30 during the summer months when the car sees light track duty and deal with this type of cooler not being particularly effective on track. |
