From the standpoint of someone who's gone through college, I'd say if this car is anywhere close to being your top priority as a college student, then you've probably gotta rethink what your goals are. Unless you're filthy rich or have filthy rich parents, or have hoards of grants and scholarships. I don't factor in student loans cause you'll have to pay those back eventually.

Cars can always wait. They'll always be there. I've gone through all these years lumbering around in my beat up 4runner, but it's served its purpose and got the job done, and it wasn't an extra bill for me to pay in terms of monthly payments and high insurance.

Leasing is stupid. You pay all that money and the car isn't even yours.

agreed. i know people who lease to avoid "paying on a depreciating asset", which is stupid because you're still paying a portion of the depreciation just not as much as someone who buys.

Not if you like to change cars every 3 or so years.

I have a 2 year lease on a Civic I use as my daily commuter to work. and I only pay $50/mo with 24k miles. I timed it almost right in time for the FRS release.

I plan on buying the FRS/BRz and keeping it long term.

Buy for sure... when you lease you own nothing... nothing to trade..
Its like renting a car for a long time.

Ill be leasing the BRZ until a STI model surfaces this way i wont be loosing money from depreciation and ill be well versed in the car before my final purchase. This is the only time ill be leasing because it makes sense to in my situation. I dont plan on owning and keeping the first AS1 until im satisfied with the model i get.

Some of the posts in this thread help illustrate what is fundamentally wrong with the way people view money in America.
