Aw man I was doing the hour drive thing for a couple of months working all the way up in suffield, I'm glad that's over.

if its priced under 21k. i can see a lot of people crashing them so fast since scions are marketed towards teens or young 20s. for alot of them it would be their first RWD cars. i used to belong to a local tc club and we went out to a spirited drive at night at a nearby mountain pass one time and a couple of them wrecked their cars and they were both 17 and 19.

inexperience is just gonna show its real ugly head if they're now driving a RWD car.

But that also means that the market will be flooded with poor quality aftermarket parts from China, and parts from GReddy and HKS will be pricey because they won't produce as many because many people will be buying the cheaper alternatives.

Plus, HKS closed US operations so parts from them are hard to get, and the might not be the only ones.
Most companies buy materials from china, did you know its legal to stamp made in usa if you simply assemble the product in usa?

Forge, a US company is guilty of doing that very thing. They are quality products, but it is from china.

So you're saying that high quality manufacturers like GReddy and HKS would produce more parts if there were less of these Toyobarus around? That doesn't make sense.

Im going to assume that most teens and such will see this car, ask for it and once the parents are at the dealership looking up the numbers they will probably end up walking out with a tC, xB, Corolla ect. I have seen it happen before when i was in highschool with guys going to nissan expecting a Z and ending up with an altima coupe lol. Like stated before its a niche car but people will look at it and want it because it looks cool. It'll be a good thing for scion though since it would probably help move units of cars under the FRS. None of the less anticipate the ricers and jail bait riding around in what you consider a great sports car.

Well, of course everything that comes out of china isn't terrible, but a lot of the imitation parts are. HKS Japan though, make all their parts in Japan and they are of very high quality.

Noooo, I'm saying HKS/GReddy will produce less if the demand for high quality parts is low, because all these kids are buying imitation parts rather than legit parts! And therefore the cost of these high quality parts is high for the people who actually want to get the real deal.

why would anyone buy hks and greddy parts when you can buy full race turbo kits for cheaper and they usually produce more hp. Or fabricate your own exhaust systems for cheaper in America?

Is it legal to do this in America? Including adding turbo?

You can modify your car as much as you want as long as it passes emissions or you just change it a back to stock when you go do emissions

I get what your saying but I wish their was some alternative then japanese companies that charge an arm and leg.

At least as Honda's are concerned companies like Full race and Peakboost seem legit. (Part Wise, Peakboost skipped out because he didnt send parts)

HKS has always been the more expensive. They are a niche company like ARC with Function with Form model. They haven't pulled out of the US entirely and parts are still easily available in the US.

If Nissan brings back a good looking SILVIA and bring it to the states, Honda Has another Integra then man... BRZ and FRS have big competitions.
Have to agree with this.

around 2006-2007ish I left the scene myself, as did most of my other friends (90% from the local Subaru club). The loss of good import mags (R.I.P SCC) as well as a crackdown on tuner cars due to idiots street racing or just acting like 'tards everywhere they shouldn't have been, that put a damper on the whole excitement of it all. Oh, and that whole economy thing...

I'm honestly really looking forward to the FT-86 and BRZ because I feel like this will be the start of a revival of the import scene, maybe even the early import scene where people would take their 'slow' rice burners out to the Friday night drags and surprise a few people.

Here's to hoping that this spurs Honda/Nissan/Mazda/Mitsu to make some affordable, small, light cars that can at least get me excited about heading to Monday night chicken wing meets again. We used to stand in the parking lot until 1-2am sometimes just trading all the same car-related stories.
