Autowindow wiring tests

I might be able to find some time to do this this week. Yay for being helpful (potentially)!

Alright, heading out to pop the panel and see what I can find out. Will post results soon. May be tricky trying to test these with the plugs in, but I'll see if I can find if there's any live voltage to the regulator or not.

What is voltage observed on some wires running between the window switch and window motor, on these pins on the window motor connector:
Pin 5 white wire, when car acc power is active, and again when acc is cold.
Pin 1 white wire/black stripe, when acc power is on, window doing nothing, then again while window rolling up using switch on door. And does voltage change/drop when window reaches top edge? Continue to observe voltage and roll window down.
Pin 3 green wire, same tests as pin1.

Use a good chassis ground point wire for the negative lead on meter.

Alright, here's what we got:
Pin 5, White wire
ACC on - 11.29V
ACC off - 11.45V

Pin 1, White/Black
ACC on - 0V
ACC on, window rolling up - 12V
ACC on, window all the way up - instant drop to 0V
ACC on, window rolling down - ~.189V - down voltage must be delivered over a separate wire.

Pin 3, Green
0V across all tests, continuity to ground. Safe to assume this is the harness ground wire.

Let me know if I can help with any other info guys!

Your results make sense, but now I see I wasn't very clear on green wire test request. I should have said repeat the tests as done for pin 1 white/black, but for window down action instead of window up. I can predict the result will be +12 while the window is rolling down, and zero when stopped on pin 3 green.
Pin 3 is the window down control, not ground. Ground is red wire pin 4.
Yellow and Grey wires pins 6 and 2 appear to be feedback for sensing the limit.

If all of this is true, then I suspect dei530T would NOT be a good thing for this car, those scion guys are right! The only hope for autowindow modules here would be for a native fit.

Here's another test I should have thought of, with ACC off, use the window switch for up and down and look for voltage on pin 1 or 3 (white/black or green) wires. I predict these lines will appear dead in this case.

Anyway, no point in doing more tests at this time. The only way this could happen is if I get my mitts on a car and scope it out closely.

If anyone else wants to take this on, I bet there's a way to generate a CAN message or streaming messages that cause windows to up/down.

Or maybe start by finding the LIN message that sends ACC ON command to drivers door. This cmd would flow through to the passenger door on UART as an ACC ON command to passenger door. Then sniff the UART while doing passenger up/down using the drivers master switch for that window, it will be a stream of repeated commands while holding the switch that stops streaming when let go.
Then see if the passenger side switch does any kind of communication over UART to the driver's door while the passenger works his window.

Very interested in getting the autowindow a native fit for our cars! i figured i would resurrect the thread. I have zero experience with CAN, UART and LIN protocols so i would need a little help with how to go about it but, I do install avionics for a living so i should be able to figure it out (Aircraft use ARNIC 429 for most everything i do). i would be willing to purchase this http://www.seeedstudio.com/depot/bus...html?cPath=174 and pull the doors apart to get the research required to get this into development. let me know if this is something you think we can do.

Okay so people tell me the car does a little window drop when you open the door, and shut it, and does a window up after that... All automatically.

If I owned an ft86 I'd know this.

This is promising!

Does this window drop thing only happen on the drivers side door,.or both doors?

it does it on both doors.

er-- clarification just in case(i assume you might already know this)-- it does each door independently-- ie, open drivers side door, drivers window drops, passenger window stays up,

Ahhh.. if each door does it independently for this feature there might not be a central nervous system command telling the "other" window to react. Each door is probably determining on its own what to do with its window and not communicating anything about it.

If *BOTH* windows did the little jig for an opening/closing of either door... that would spell out at least a LIN command is being generated between the doors. Such a thing could be captured and ... possibly extending to do "more up" and "more down"... leading to remote window control.

I'd be looking for the CAN command (or LIN command) that could be generated on the network that would do all windows, or... issue two commands in rapid succession for left and right which would have the effect of doing two windows at once.

The good news to take from this "discovery" is that we know POWER is available and can be used locally in each door for window controls, when the car IGN is off. The module in there wakes up on its own (door switch input probably) does its thing and then relaxes. That's a key ingredient for remote window control.

It would be awesome to find the LIN command that wakes up the other door and makes it "do windows". Which MUST BE POSSIBLE because the driver can control the passenger window from his window switch block. SO we're not chasing a ghost, there is a such a LIN command happening the car.
