Drive up in a car like that I don't think you're there to test out a TC...

NO, no no no.
There is a big difference between an Automatic transmission - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia and a Dual-clutch transmission it's kind of like the difference between a piston engine and a wankel engine; same purpose, very different mechanically. The paddle shifters in the FRS/BRZ have much more in common with the auto in your moms minivan than the "auto" in a GTR or 458.
Automatic defined: starting or functioning by itself: started, operated, or regulated by a process or mechanism without human intervention.

Automatic is automatic is automatic. No matter how the transmission accomplishes it, the driver need not be involved in the process.

That is not likely to be true at all with this type of car. Take a look on autotrader for sports cars and note the difference in price for similar cars in auto and manual. Autos tend to trade lower (at least on the sports cars I search occasionally. There's nothing worse than seeing a 911 priced $15k lower than it should be and then realizing it has an auto).

This is a car that is intended to sell to enthusiasts. For the money, you give up a lot of space and features to own an FR-S/BRZ vs other vehicles in its price range. Unless they soften it and somehow vastly increase the equipment list while keeping the price the same, I wouldn't expect this to be a vehicle with mass market appeal.

Agree, me and all of my friends look as used cars constantly and nothing kills value like an automatic in a sports car. It might be worth more at a dealer for trade in, but private party is very different. Sports cars are typically aimed at enthusiasts, and the manual trans is their trans of choice.

i agree in principal, and upon reflection, realize i misspoke. your reasoning "trumps" my own,in that one HAS to view this car as unique, and as such, people seeking it out "used" WILL indeed WANT the stick over the 'slush"
box for the reason(s) you cited. i stand corrected.

The first time I drove up was in a 2011 Honda Pilot and then an 09 Civic. They just watched me eye the two they had on the lot. One guy walked towards me, stopped for a moment, and went back inside...
