How could you cope without your car for so long?! My fuel pump has been on back order for almost 3 weeks and I was without my FR-S for 3 days when I just couldn't take it anymore. I think it partly had to do with the clown car they gave me as a rental. Fiat 500...

Of course you care what it sounds like and looks like as well as how it drives. You've just decided to accept your car sounding like it's clapped out because you feel you don't have a choice after all this time.
I certainly wouldn't put up with it.

Now they've given it enough time to prove the HP pump doesn't shit itself with the noisy washer they must have decided to let you all live with the noise. That's a real shame because it lets the car down.
It's not normal, it's a fault caused by ethanol. A design fault that needs to be addressed for countries that commonly add it to fuel.

No, I don't care. And I certainly have choices, I could put oil in my gas to get rid of it, and introduce an unnecessary and disputed foreign agent in my fuel system. I could have the dealership replace pump after pump until a proper one comes out, waisting both of our time. Or I could raise a big stink with Toyota and get all stressed out trying to lemon law my car or something along those lines. All of that over a sound that is simply odd/different/weird for a car. It does not sound "clapped out", it is just unusual. I choose to enjoy the car for the reasons I purchased it and not let some trivial thing bother me. If a new pump comes along under warranty that gets rid of the sound for good, great I'll get it replaced when it's convenient. Until then I don't care.

x a few thousand and you have the reason it hasn't been fixed.

I do understand though. Just the thought of leaving my car at a dealer for any reason has me dreading what will happen to it and to keep taking it back for the same problem without a result would drive me nuts.
There has to be a solution though and keeping on at them to resolve it once and for all is the only way it will get addressed.

I have faith that there are plenty of people out there raising a stink. The TSB to replace the pump is indication of that. I'm guessing/hoping at this point they have realized they need a new pump and will do a new/revised TSB once they are stocked up with '14 pumps.

That blows. I wonder how much longer we have to wait for a legitimate fix.

I had my pump replaced when the chirp started.

I've had my car back about 2 1/2 weeks and now its chirp again, worse than before.

Also it misses some in the morning when I start it up, this is something that started after the new pump.

I recorded a video of the chirp and emailed it to the service manager when I turned in my car yesterday.

Today they told me they could not figure out what the chirp is and are waiting to hear from Toyota corp for a plan on what to do. They said that they sent my video to Toyota corp as well.

Picking up my car today and going to take it back in when they have a plan as to what they are going to do.

Until then I'll try putting E0 92 (pure gas) and see if that makes a difference.

This isn't the point.

The point is I'm spending $25k+ for a brand new car. A brand new car should not sound like shit. The chirp makes the car sound like shit.

If you care that little about your investment, so be it.

Ethanol free gas works... Been doing it for over 2 months now and no chirps.

This topic needs to DIE. Ethanol free gas is the only fix right now. If you live in a lame state that doesn't have it then sad day.

There is a place about 10min from my house that sells E0 92oct.

I highly recommend the Pure Gas app for anyone with an Iphone or Android, makes finding a pure gas pump easy when you are out on the go.

Thanks for the confirm on the E0.

but....

I don't think the thread needs to die. Without it I would still be banging my face into the wall with the dealership and wondering if I made a bad investment.

This is the first hit when you google "FRS chirp". Its saved me a lot of stress.
