Thanx Diderm for the BRZ/GT86 side by side pic. The GT86 gets my vote on the looks department. But then we have the aftermarket to help the BRZ with it's ugly mug.

I absolutely love this car, but I just want a little more power from the factory. I might consider swapping an EJ, but I don't know how/if that'll impact handling. I would easily pay 30-40k for an approx. 300hp version. I'm actually cross shopping a Mustang GT, 370z, and this car for purchase here in the next year or so. Yes, I know that's quite a difference in vehicles, but I have never owned a car and am not sure what i'm looking for. It's going to come down to the test drive. So, perhaps some others are in the same boat as me. I have no prior experience of a drivers, sports, muscle, or any other type of car. I drive a truck. However, I would like to get something that is sporty and fun. The question is who gets my money. |

Post release IMO the FR-S and BRZ forums should be one "General 86 Discussion" then have the normal subforums (performance, technical/diy, suspension, brakes, racing/autocross, drifting, etc)

^^That's fine, but again Justanothernumber....how much more $ are you willing to pay?
I'll take a low powered from the factory and go aftermarket for power over a factory powered vehicle. I don't care about warranties and Aftermarket $-to-power ratio is leaps and bounds over Factory $-to-power ratio. |

Being a brand new vehicle, I am a little more concerned with keeping my warranties, at least initially. Maybe in the future if I see a lot of successful and reliable aftermarket changes, i'll go that route. |

7th Gen Civic onwards (2001), pretty much around the same time Subaru decided to follow a similar progressive trend, end of the 20th century marked a turning point for many Japanese manufacturers. Quote:

The front bumper is different Headlights are different The taillights are a little different The wheels are different The BRZ does not have the 86 on it. The Front and Rear emblems are different The Wheel size maybe different (some specs are showing the 86 with staggered 18 inch, could be only on the highspec trim) The weight is a little bit different...86 is at 2601 pounds... But the cars are going to sound and drive about the same... |

Ok, but this car is not designed to be at $30-40k. You would be better suited to looking at the Mustang GT and 370z. This cars competition is to the likes of a Miata and similar. This car is like rebirthing the 240sx. |

That's fast enough. But we will have to do independent testing to find out if that is true... |

Taillights: No. The Scion will have the same as I've already pointed out. The ones on the GT86/86 are NOT US DOT legal. The BRZ ones are the US taillights. Both cars will have them. Wheels: Those wheels have been seen on both. There are multiple options, but those wheels are in Toyotas books as well, so they'll either be available on both or standard on both high spec cars. Until US spec is released we won't know for sure. Emblems: Of course. Steering wheels, wheels, front, back and side panels. All of that is expected. I suspect GT86/86 side panels will be a very popular change. I think they look nice and think the subaru ones look like cheap shit.. Wheel size: See the wheels comment. Both are likely to have non staggered 17s with 215/45/17 tires. The 18s are an option (and there are at least two 18" options). Weight: GT86/86 minimum weight is likely the base/low spec. The Subaru may be the high spec. Without any real details/specs it's impossible to say, however, if you equip them the same, the weight difference will come down to whatever the differences in the bumper and side plaque panel weights are.

200HP and 2601+ pound weight is light and good. 0 to 60 in the upper 5 to low 6 secs is good. Handling as good or better than a Porsche Cayman....priceless! |

Can anyone tell why the BRZ is 40kg heavier than the GT 86? Both are announced with identical 17" wheels so does this mean the BRZ comes with 40kg worth of standard equipment that are optional on the GT 86? If so, what could they be?
