only for stratified charge, no? for regular DI on the intake stroke, wouldnt the shape of the ports would be more important than the piston?

That's true, but I don't think the information on D4-S is consistent enough to say what actually happens. I've read all the "official" articles on it several times and I am still confused as to how the direct/port injectors are operated.

Lol. I just hope that TRD will make a Turbo or Supercharger kit for this car. 12.5 is sky high. But TRD makes the Supercharger for the 1GR-FE in my truck and compression is a decent 10.1. Its a 60hp gain (crank) from stock. 239 to 304hp.
Imagine how much money Toyota would make if they offered a S/C kit that brings power from 200 to 260 or 280hp! Did i mention when installed at a dealer the S/C , motor and everything else are covered under warranty! |

There should not be any problem for supercharging this engine. The BMW M3 E9X runs over 600 PS with supercharger (G-Power, ESS-Tuning, Active Autowerke,...) and has a compression ratio 12.0:1.

That's not a terribly relevant "if...then" comparison. We have no idea how fragile or strong the FA20 is. We can run some calculator numbers and make educated guesses what the typical safe boost level limit is, however that makes no regard for actual individual component strength, which is very much decided on a per-engine design basis. Saying "just cuz BMW can do it" has no bearing on if this particular engine can. Only time and experimentation [or very advanced simulation] will tell.

During the opening speech at Fuji Speedway, they said that the engineers had traveled all over the country attending grassroot drift and track events, to see what the enthusiasts and purists wanted. I'm sure that a turbo kit will be available within months of its release. People are already taking about building a drift car out of it, so theirs no way Toyota and Subaru would limit us to a motor like this, seeing as pro drift cars are 400+hp.
