Are there even any vendors using this tool to distribute maps? It doesn't have the ability to provide encryption or some other mechanism to protect a tuner's map, does it?

Not really sure what you mean by this?

I mean tuning our cars, then posting up our maps to the community, so that others can modify and make use of them as well.

Then again for those with heavily modified or boosted cars, this is no subsititute for a dyno tune. But at least another persons map could provide a starting point if they have a similar setup.

Yes, non vendor maps only. For that matter, maps that the creator wishes to be public domain.. because the issue is not whom is a paid vendor or not but who has given consent for public usage IMO anyway.

I say this because I come from the Evo community where 99% or more of tuning is done with EcuFlash. There is a very strict policy on EvoM of not posting vendor maps.

The problem with the stock Evo ECU is it cannot be secured in any way. Even if vendors "lock" the maps, it takes 30 seconds to unlock them with a free and widely available tool online.

Given the low cost of entry I'm pretty sure various local shops will start offering dyno-tunes with it. How useful those maps will be to other cars or whether someone would be willing to go through the trouble of getting their own tactrix cable/basic license to pull the roms is another story.

Sounds weird to me i guess because i come from the honda community, where there arent exactly cookie-cutter maps being sold by vendors... vendors sell the tuning solution itself, then you download a widely available basemap that someone has posted that is somewhat close to your setup, then take it to a tuner and get it dyno tuned.

Ive always thought of basemaps as a starting point, ive never thought of them as something that somebody bottles and sells.

This is how it's supposed to be. But that doesn't stop some users from saying "oh hai guys, i have a stock car with EBC, catback, and intake. can someone plz post a map if you have the same mods? k thx"

Crap like that...

Can anyone confirm if it's possible to disable DTC's generated by lack of cats with this solution?
