Anyone have any idea if the engine is going to be open or closed deck?

Its never going to be worth turbocharging this engine if you ask me. The Direct injection and compression just get in the way too much. It'll take a lot less time and money to swap in the Impreza STI 2.0 or 2.5 lump and be done with it.

I've got my GT4 for boost and track days, so my plan now is to just get all the TRD factory bolt ons for the 86 and leave it at that. The best is can be nasp while still keeping a warranty.

My very next sentence referenced the new Mazda Skyactiv engine running 14.0:1 static CR, which is definitely not an expensive engine.

The point being; 12.5:1 isn't anything new or special for 2013 model year.

Yeah that's my plan, buy it now and enjoy it how it is from the factory. Once the warranty expires swap an STI engine in, or a turbo for the stock engine if someone manages to find a way. Gives them time to get the ECU tuning right and everything. I definitely would not want to be a guinea pig turboing a brand new engine.

Your absolutely correct... but the new motor @ 12.5:1 is kind of a middle of the road thing everywhere. the new mazda stuff gets 40+mpg (supposedly). The toyota engine is neither that efficient nor exceptionally powerful... only time will tell if this motor will be able to handle extra power well... up until now everything I'm saying is speculation. Until someone gets their gurbby little paws on this little gem, it's going to be hard to wait. Even the guys who want to stay N/A on the motor will benefit from guys trying to boost it.

Agreed. I find myself lurking on the forums hitting F5 over and over hoping for more responses or new topics.

Damn Toyota and Subaru Luckily I've completed all the work I can on my major projects right now, all are waiting on others. I do have about 15 other less major projects I could be working on but this is more fun :P

Looking at the scan that shows the seating, wheelbase, etc measurements, it looks like the calipers are single piston sliders.. I'm fine with that, but I wonder if it's accurate

I thought it said they were monoblock calipers... they look like single pots from the outside... at least on most of em anyways.

how was the 12.5:1 calculated/estimated?
that doesn't sound right at all, if it is that's awful!!!
based on number I won't be able to live with this car unless I add FI
but those numbers don't seem to be very FI friendly.
