you are extremely fortunate in this. Putting the aftermarket suspension on the car and not informing the insurance company can make you liable for the damages. You decreased the height of the impact zones which are set to be at relatively the same height on all cars, so when you collide, it hits specific zones. By lowering the car, you compromised the integrity and safety of the vehicle, meaning the safety inspection was no longer valid. This means the car was illegal, and should not have been driven, and if the insurance company wanted to, or knew, they could drop you as a policy holder leaving you with the bill. Im only saying this so you know what could happen and can take that into account on the next car. Im very sorry for the loss of the car.

That said, im glad every one is ok in this. But please be extremely careful when modifying your car. We found out the hard way.

On top of that iag asked to buy the car back to set it up as a racecar. Well see what happens in the next few days. But i went to look at it tody and unfortuantly the other car had a tow hook on the back which caused alot of damage.
Know what my friend calls tow hitches? "Sports car radiator removers."

I mean, no offense, but your car likely wouldn't have been totaled if was higher. Having an at fault claim like this won't be good for your insurance; you would risk it happening again?

My insurance was 88 a month before i cant see it going up 100%. That being said i dont expect to crash the next one. This crash basically was the perfect storm. New tires, outta gas, cutoff, all happen so perfect.

Wow, you had cheaper insurance than I did. $88 is cheap as shit. I paid $114/month before I added my WRX to my policy (now $129/month).

Honestly dude, it's quite possible your insurance will jump up exponentially if you plan to buy the same car.. Same car with the same risks. When you add on the fact that you totaled a 7 month old RWD sportscar and are fully at fault, insurance companies will try to make it their while insuring you.. Once you increase your risk factors, they'll calculate the higher probably that you will crash again.. You're now less profitable to insure.

How do new tires and having no gas make it easier to crash? I kinda think that's reversed... old worn tires and a full tank of gas (more weight).

Not sure what gas factors in as other than driving stressed/looking for a gas station. New tires, however, are a different story; often they have release agents and other stuff from the factory that needs to wear down before the tire becomes as grippy as it actually is. Before these agents wear down the tire can be very slick.

No gas = less traction due to lack of weight?

New summer tires have a sillicone over top of them that usually wears off in 60 miles or somthing. The people had ran outta gas. And i doubt they will jump to over 130$.

My insurance once jumped 52$ for a 15mph over 7 years ago.. The biggest factor here wasn't tires or anything like that.. It was speed.. You claim on the first page no one would let you merge.. Yet later said you was doing 70.. To me there seems no reason to be doing 70, and if I read and understood right, 70 on the shoulder where the people were.. Lowering your car looks cool, but you just seen what can happen.. And your here saying your going to do the exact same thing.. If you was indeed doing about 40 when you hit.. What are bumper made for now.. Still 25 or 30 mph now?? You car was the stock height chances are you replacing some crush mounts and bumper .. Bumper cover and a few more things..
