My Yaris has a 1.5L and redlines and 6.5(ish) 60MPH is like 3200RPM's for me. 2500 is practically idling at 60 from my point of view.

Love what I am hearing in these two write-ups. Glad to hear the LSD seems like it would be better for non-track driving. For me this is just a fun to own, long term car. I don't have any plans to take it to a track, not to say that I wouldn't.

Think they will actually announce the official US price at TMS next month?

Whoa so 200hp 170lbs/tq at 2640lbs? And, a R model? hmmm I wonder how much more the R will be. It seems the target was the MX-5, and not the s2000...

2 things...

Someone said they want to cruise at 1500rpm in 6th gear at 60mph. Sounds like you need a Corvette b/c no way in hell can an I4 engine pull that

37mpg doesn't mean 37mpg EPA. This car was tested by CAR, a BRITISH magazine. Hence, they're using imperial gallons not US gallons. Think before you post

All of you with deposits go ahead and get the first versions while we wait for the R version!!!

Thanks for posting the article OP! :happy0180:

Turbocharging the flat-four would be straightforward (after all, that’s what Subaru does with the Impreza), but chief engineer Tetsuya Tada told us that he ‘doesn’t like turbos’ and has ‘decided to reject the numeric power war’. He also said that an R version of the FT-86 was coming with less weight, Brembo brakes (our test car’s stoppers were from Hitachi), a rollcage, a larger rear wing, no rear seats and, yes, a mechanical LSD but no more power.

And bear in mind that Toyota had invited us for our input and that this was a fairly early car – things will be tweaked for production. Our cars were still disguised, although pictures of the FT-86 production car have leaked out in recent days.

Other options are also on the cards: a convertible is ‘possible’, while an auto gearbox is confirmed – it’s a six-speed unit based on the eight-speeder in the high-performance Lexus ISF.

i wouldnt be worried about the high rpm cruising, my celica cruises at 2.9k and i get 34 mpgs... and for the bad handling review... well maybe the test driver had a problem kinda of like that top gear episode where jeremy complained about the lotus elise handleing like crap and the lotus suspension engineer got in it and showed him a thing or two on how to drive it and ripped his head off...
or maybe it was because of the crappy eco tires on them

Aussie conversions for members here:

Currency conversion £1 = 1.5059 AUD
with this in mind Aussie pricing not including tarrifs and etc £25,000 = 37,604.44 AUD, so pricing would mostly likely be at the 40k mark.

200hp = 149kw (on 95Ron or 98Ron ???)
170lb = 230Nm
0-100 = 7seconds
Limiter/Max 140mi= 225k/h
Imp 37mpg = 7.63 L/100km

7 seconds 0-100, pretty happy with that. Has a more thrust than a MX5.

I believe formula was talking about the article mentioning that the "R" version would have a rollcage standard and thus he guesses it might not be a street legal car.

I would venture to guess something similar to the "R" might be released as a street legal TRD version without the rollcage though.

roll cage is street legal in germany. As long as the tubes are polstered in areas the head might bang during an accident.
