It's probably just another wax that they will charge an arm and a leg and say that you are required to have it when everyone knows that that is complete bs.

Last Friday I had them replaced the fuel pump w/ total 6 related parts. Total parts and labor cost about $1,600 on invoice paper. Oh well I just want to have it replaced anyway, and why not just do it under warranty. Man, what's a difference sound it made after replaced those parts as I drive it out the dealer. The subaru engine sound so smooth like a new camry or lexus .... (lol). I put 200 miles on it now and so far there is no cricket sound yet, but if it ever come back I hope it not too intend like the last one.

Pretty sure the crickets are back. 3,000 miles after I had the fix.
Hoping its not the case, else I will give the dealer a second shot at the repair at the 10K checkup.

I doubt Subaru/Toyota released the car knowing it would chirp, and the unsuccessful TSBs show that they don't know what's causing it. Producers routinely tell "all normal, nothing too see here" to things that years later lead to a government-mandated recall. So going by what manufacturer is saying might turn out to be legitimate, but right now it's equally legitimate to doubt what they are saying. So there is no "/thread", not even close. |

So I just heard the chirping.. about 1500 miles in. Is it worth it to even get the TSB if it won't fix the problem?
edit: Can I even get the TSB if my vehicle is after the production change effective VIN "709026"? |

Hate to be "that guy" but I am a very experienced automotive technician and work on a lot of modern German dfi fuel system vehicles. I have seen and heard many of the cricket videos, IMO it is most likely the injectors, I have less then 300 miles on my frs currently and haven't heard these noises in person but what I can say, and I only say this to put people's minds at ease, is that some of the early dfi systems in vws back in 06 and Porsches in 08 both has very strange noises that were very similar to the noise y'all are describing in this thread. We were later informed that these noises were normal and would range in tone as well as frequency and were told to ignore them. I am guessing this might be the case here

That decision will be up to you. As far as the VIN range is concerned, it depends on how good your maintenance rep is. My view on it is wait until spring.

PS--the videos let you hear the sound, but they don't really give you the first-hand experience. Trust me, from my first-hand experience, the noise is coming from the HPFP. |

From everything I've heard from Toyota (I unfortunately don't have anything I can cite, was all phone/in-person conversations), they knew that this would happen. They just assumed that most people wouldn't really care. As stated in previous paragraph, this is not a new DI system. The major difference is that there is significantly less sound deadening on this car than the other cars (Lexuses... Lexus's... Lexi?) the system is used in, so it's much louder when the car is sitting at idle. Quote:

Just got a call from SF toyota. They said they just replaced another fuel pump( its the 3rd times already) and should be ready for a pickup in an hour. He told me that this fuel pump was produced 2-3 months ago, so it different than the one they replaced for my car the 1st and 2nd times. Well I just hope the noise wont come back. I told the service manager guy a that i wouldn't want to replace the fuel pump today if there is no permanent fix but he told me to leave the car there and he will do his best to get it fixed.
So hopefully this is it and i wont have to go back to Toyota services for silly stuff. ![]() Sent from my HTC One XL using Tapatalk 2 |

You can think whatever about your personal level of sureness. Most people posting nonsense online are always sure they are right. But the fact is - you don't have access to the data. And if you do, you don't have your employer permission to post about proprietary data on public forums. So which is it?
