Ecutek unfortunately is a small company like Visconti said, and they don't subsidize the rest of their business by selling parts like many other vendors do. I've always thought they should hire someone to design a standalone reflash box like most other vendors, that way they could do away with all the hardware dongles, cables, hardware drivers, etc. and issues that come along with that and supporting it. The biggest issue with supporting reflash software on a PC is the PC. They leave it to their network of tuners to deal with those issues. Perrin wrote a huge blog post on how to load the software and reflash because it's not as simple as plugging a device into your OBD2 port and hitting "flash". This is a much smaller market than domestic cars so you are going to pay more, that's to be expected. A Cobb Access Port is $595 for the WRX/STi and people have been happily paying that for years. Base tunes are free but most end up paying to have their cars custom tuned. With Ecutek you are at about the same cost if you have the car custom tuned. I used to be in the same boat with wanting control over everything to do my own tuning, but these engines are too damn complex nowadays with direct injection, VVTi, etc. It requires hundreds of dyno pulls and tweaking to get things optimal and just changing some injector values and tweaking timing isn't really going get it done. |

I'm happy with the Ecutek system, the Master Tuners have access to so many cars with different modifications and know what works and what doesn't. I'm sure there are some people that can tune their own cars but with the complexity of port and direct injection, vvti, etc i think most of us should leave it up to the experts.

No end user tuning is the only thing stopping me from pulling the trigger on something right now. Hoping for a solution from somewhere this year.

I'm a huge fan of doing things myself, but I can say without any doubt that tuning a modern car is not really in my comfort zone. Maybe one day after i have had the car properly tuned by a pro and end user capabilities expand would I tinker with it. But as far as jumping feet first into tuning without any background, I'll pass. To those of you who have successfully tuned modern cars then I can understand the frustration, but for most of us the way things are now is ideal.

I understand you guys want to do stuff on your own, but is it really that much of a deal breaker to just get it tuned by someone else? your gonna pay nearly the same on dyno time alone that you would on a map. Now if you have access to a dyno, then you can still do remote tuning. Either way its not a huge deal when you really break it down.

If I'm paying for dyno time, then I don't want to wait (spending literally hundreds of dollars) just sending logs and maps back and forth via email. I tried depending on remote email support at the track before, and that's what inspired me to learn to tune on my own. Sometimes time is something you can't afford to waste. Besides that, it feels good when you make a change, and immediately see the the effect. Maybe you just want to make a simple tweak to the throttle mapping. Maybe the fuel you normally run isn't available where you happen to be. Maybe you've changed fuel injectors. If you're capable of making the changes yourself, do you want to be left at the convenience of another party? |

I'm actually hoping that Ecutek would let us have the ability to tune our own cars as well. I track my car often and a lot of times there isn't internet access or signal strong enough for me to do remote tuning with my tuner, or if my tuner doesn't have the time to help me out while I'm at the track logging data, and so forth.

having have had a few systems in the past such as greddy emanage, aem's, mapecu, megasquirt, and haltech. its all about the same how it works. I just realized in the end, its never just a simple tweak, when to really optomize somthing you may as well be on a dyno where its both safer and easier. Im not saying im against them releasing a enduser version, i just fully understand their reasoning behind it and dont understand why some people are so pissed off about not having an enduser version. Not you, just others on the forums. Also, I believe that remote tuning can be done live with ecutek, so its really no different than having the person there at that point. |

I also like the idea of optimizing tunes for a climate. For example, AVOs turbo tune is safe completely at 6000 ft above sea level, which is awesome... you can drive the car cross country without issues on their tune, however for that you sacrifice some timing/fueling (ie power). I'm never going to be more than 1000 ft above sea level. If I leave the Seattle area (ever), it's on a plane as the only place I'd visit is family on the east coast (so I'm not driving there) or to go on vacation out of the state (not driving there either as a vacation in Idaho isn't my idea of fun)... So I'd like to be able to optimize my tune for the Seattle area (and furthurmore, E85) and therefore make some more power. Not to mention I want to be able to make changes on the fly when I inevitably throw in larger injectors and a pump right away, so I don't run pig rich for a week (and wash out my cylinders) while I wait for a tune.

i looking forward to buying your tune but im looking for end user tuning. i was wondering if youre pushing for end user tuning with ecutek or another company. if its with ecutek might as well get the tune now but if not, id rather wait.
