If 86 get their compliance plate in Japan when they were built. How come my web tracking shows nothing for compliance date? The web tracking shows my car is in transit with information on VIN no. and Engine no., but no compliance date.

If, 2 years down the path you wanted an 86 and saw a 2012 with 18,500km and a 2013 with 37,800km both SAME price, which would YOU buy, considering you planned to keep the car 4-5 years? To me, regardless of the year I'd go for the best kept with the lowest km's, maybe we are different |

People carry on and on about the year the car was made, you will get more when you sell it if it's a 2013 plated car blah blah. NEWS FLASH: This is BS peddled by dealers to screw you on a trade in price. When it comes time to sell your car only 4 things realistically matter 1: How many Km's it's done and 2: The condition the car has been kept in. 3: If it is the current "shape" 4: If it has a solid service history and no it doesn't have to be dealer serviced. Those are the only factors that will determine the money you get for your car. |

do you think a dealer will give you a higher trade in for a 2012 or 2013 build?

Cool a bit of a debate, exactly what I wanted.
I'm kinda leaning toward just getting it! I want the damn thing. I am seeing it that people are paying a premium of about $5k above the RRP for the privelage to have the thing early. I play to keep it for 3 years or so. Who knows what happens might have it longer or not. Still it is sitting in the back of my head annoying me. Ahwell thanks guys! |

I don't plan on selling mine for at least 5-10 years but if I did it all comes back to how YOU look after it! When I bought my Corolla Sportivo in 2003, I traded a 94 Celica ZR [top of the line] with 83,000km in mint conditon because that's how I treated it. Trade-in? forget the 95-96-97 cars, I got more than DOUBLE what the redbook price was and the same day it went in one of the Dealership Staff members bought it! Some say taking care of a car isn't easy but really? Why park in a shopping centre carpark if you can park away from all 50-100, away? Sure, you can't stop the stone chips on the front but you can stop the 'door-open' marks. If you live in the inner city area of a Capital city without 'undercover' parking, unfortunately that's something you would have already thought thru before making the decision to order Take good care of it from day one so when you finally sell or trade it the prospective buyer is looking at the car, not the compliance plate |

Thanks that helped also haha. I'm about 90% certain to just get it now!
I do take care of my car from a dont you dare park next to my car standpoint, and always park as far as possible away from others (and get incredibly pissed off to come back and see some asshole parked next to me when there are free parks everywhere!). There are no dings on my current car. And because this will not be a DD it should help also, and it will be parked in a sealed car hold. The only thing I dont really do is wash it very often, partly because it doesnt really need it, but also when it gets rain spots I tend to leave it for a bit due to laziness. The 86 will be opticoated. My work car however I park wherever I need to be. I have quite a bad door open smash in the side that appeared a month after having it, brand new. That scared me a lot with parking near anything. |

I wash cars every 1-2 weeks, more so if it rains because rainwater is the BEST! Having had 4 cars when I ordered the 86 I'm now down to just the two MX's, my trade-in went last Tuesday, saved me registering it as it was just sitting in the garage keeping km's down until the 86 arrives Now making plans for Christmas and as the 86 is not due until January it's a 1500km MX journey down the Newell!! I cancelled my original order as mentioned in a few previous posts and now have a GTS MT due for build December with January delivery and the compliance plate means 'JS' to me! When and if I come to sell, it will be the car they notice not the plate and bu going 'private sale' will be the way, regardless of the plate the Dealers will be out to screw anyone! Now to see how Toyota distribute those 1,500 cars [less the 45's and Hilux models] I do hope they generate a list of outstanding orders from oldest date down and match and allocate the cars to those orders rather than just 'flip' them 'willy-nilly' out to Dealers who have no one that ordered the spec they get as has been happening the last month or so Last edited by Zero00; 11-11-2012 at 09:16 PM. |

At the weekend I was speaking to a Stock Controller from a large Brisbane Dealership [not Toyota] and he said what happens usually is vehicles landed in Australia mid to late December are held over until January for compliance, so received a 'January' plate. If the customer is desperate for the vehicle they will have that one 'pushed thru' but it will get 'December' compliance On another matter, again speaking with a Dealer, their lists are showing NO cars planned for January build, jumps from December to February, so they have no idea whether the plant shuts down or what - I will contact a guy next floor up who's brother works for TMCA-Q and see what he says about it The wait goes on! |

So... if my latest estimated pick up date is 22/12, any chance I would get a Jan compliance plate?
Any possibility I could ask the dealer to postpone compliance til January..? |

For 86 it is the responsibility of FHI (manufacturer) and Subaru Australia (the importer), but I haven't confirmed exactly where it gets installed. I assume you have seen Altona production? |
