Since I don't feel like walking to work, I'll be putting winter tires on and driving the FR-S.

I originally planned to put winter tires on and drive it year round, but the salt and corrosion potential really scared me away from that. I really like this car, and I plant to keep it for as long as it stays together. If keeping it garaged during the bad months makes it last longer, I'm all for it. My goal is to move to a place that doesn't get snow in 5-10 years anyway.
I don't consider the FR-S a summer car. I consider it a spring-summer-fall-but-not-winter car. |

The salt and corrosion did not scare me away,it was the potential of commuting in 6-12 inches of snow for a few months.Been there, done that, not worth it IMO.I live in a fairly large urban area that does not see plow trucks early enough. |

First snow in CT today. I still have my stock Michellin's on while I'm deciding what to replace them with.
Easy drive and I was able keep my cool when some minivan racer pulled up on my ass not long before I had to take a right turn off a busy road to my house (50mph to 5mph in good conditions). I absolutely despise assholes who do not keep their distance... One day they'll all regret it.

The car is a total econo-box in stock form, it's one of those cars meant to be driven. I am surprised so many people are so phobic of winter in it. Now if you have 10k worth of crap installed on it I get you want to protect your investment.

getting into "hiding" places, and starting to do it's thing! you are correct in that the freezing weather helps,BUT it just SLOWS the process down,DOESN'T stop it,so why take a chance? for 20 bucks a month,it's worth it to me! flush it out as often as possible! ,just make sure you use a facility that uses clean water! some of these places just recycle, and the water "retains" impurities, AND salt too!..just sayin' |

The only thing that concerns me are the sideview mirrors frosting up/freezing over. My 626 had heated mirrors, which was a pretty nice feature, considering. I'm actually surprised the FR-S got something like auto up/down windows, but not heated mirrors, espcially given how crucial the mirrors in this car are with the blind spots. They sit at an angle that makes it difficult to use a regular sized ice scrapper, so I was wondering if it would hurt them if I just kept a can of that deicing spray in the car and just gave them a quick spray off before I leave for work in the morning?

Syracuse huh? I live in Cicero. I haven't seen a single FRS/BRZ on the road yet though.
