Salted roads. FR-S up for season.
They layed the first of many layers of salt today. And with that the FR-S goes in the garage ready for mods.

What helped you make the decision? You had parts ready to be installed?
I was wondering about this myself (when to take it off the road), we're expecting salty roads tomorrow... |

I would garage it too. I would rather drive around in a 500$ Honda civic all winter then let the salt even have a day to attack a new car that's pretty much meant to be a summer sports coupe.

Sigh I hate salt. I'm hoping the FRS will only have to drive through it for 1 year. Hoping to have a winter beater and garage for next year.

Agreed. Not that I think the FR-S wouldn't be capable of bombing around in the snow with a good set of snow tires, I just wouldn't want it getting eaten by all the salt. A cheap beater is a much better idea. I stopped driving my MR2 in the winter after I installed coilovers, big brakes, and anything else I didn't want getting ruined by all the salt/sand/slush. I'm gonna undercoat the bejeezus out of my BMW and drive that thing instead.

Mine got an oil change, a bath, and a full tank on Sunday and is now laid up for the winter. It'll come out after the first big thunderstorm in April washes all the salt off the roads. Now I just have to figure out what to do to stay entertained for the next 5 months.

I'm also thinking about whether to keep my FR-S off the road during the winter. I'll probably end up driving it, except on days when it snows.
Come early spring, I'll wash out the underside and show it some love. |

Even going through winter and salt, it's going to take a good 7 years for anything to start rusting. People are paranoid haha
![]() I'll probably won't own it that long so I don't give crap lol |

My suburb stopped using salt. They use sand everywhere instead. The big city still uses it though.
Weather's been weird though. 2 years ago we get over a foot of snow and last season not a single flake! Who knows what this year brings. |

Unfortunately I don't have room in the driveway for another car, so the FR-S is undercoated and hoping for the best. I'm looking forward to the snow to test out the new blizzak ws70's though.

Luckily I live in so cal... Don't have that problem... But I think even if I lived up north like when I lived in Illinois... I still would have to drive it... I hate just parking my bike when it drops in the 30's... I can't imagine parking my ride for 5 months a year... I feel for you guys...
