I don't think anybody is saying "3000lbs is bad" as a blanket statement. The point is Toyota's been going out of its way to say that the FT86 is going to value lightweight and superb balance/feel over brute power... and if it were 3000 lbs that'd fly against all their marketing hubub and positioning. Plus relative to how small the car is, 3000 would be terrible.

I think R&T is smoking some good shite if they think the FT86 will weigh 3000lbs. The new 2012 Subaru Impreza with AWD and four doors weighs 2,911lbs. Not to mention the Impreza being much bigger than the FT86 and not even designed to be nimble and lightweight as its primary purpose (meant more as a people mover); I just don't see how one could really believe the 86 would be 3000lbs. Toyota and Subaru know that would be a failure at that weight. With all the talk about how much time Toyobaru has spent on just the A/C pump in getting it as light weight as possible, this car has that as a focus. So yes, if the car does not weigh less than a 2012 4-door Impreza, it will be a failure. I doubt Toyobaru would spend the better part of +3 years to release a subpar and overweight coupe.

Re the Subaru getting more votes at Road and Track than the Scion: In part, maybe a whole bunch of the loyal Toyota Celica fans feel completely betrayed, and are voicing their collective disgust that Toyota (at least as currently stands) has decided to badge the FT-86ii as a Scion in North America, while releasing the car as a Toyota Celica in Europe! And, I wasted 10 whole years waiting for a new Celica for this ultimate act of betrayal by Toyota. Thanks a lot, Toyota!

Except we don't know if it'd be badged as a Celica... that's total conjecture.

Conjecture I agree with The freaking thing LOOKS like a Celica. It's even got the squared off stick-out tail lights from the last gen one.

Unless I'm really impressed with the interior of the Scion (not likely...) I'll be getting the scooby anyways. There's some rumors flying around now that they're gonna call it the 22c, in honor of the last 2 door WRX, the 22b.

Any link to this 22c rumor. I'm very interested in the direction Subaru might take with their version if they're considering using a name referencing one of their most iconic nameplates on this coupe.

Yeah I highly doubt that Subaru would disrespect the name that way. I have yet to read any article that has mentioned the name as being 22c besides the post on here.

22c nameplate is a bitch slap in the face if this is RWD and 200hpN/A.

If Subaru is indeed considering a 22c in the future..it would be 1 of two things.

The FT86 chassy reworked for AWD, TURBO

or

Based off the next gen WRX's after it has separated from the impreza platform.

built to celebrate Subaru's return to WRC in a winning production car.

There was some talk of Subaru filing for it or something similar on the WRX forums lately. Most of them assumed it referred to the FT-86 clone. I suppose it's also possible that a 2-door version of the new Impreza platform is being developed and that's how Subaru will differentiate the new WRX, since they're "splitting" it off from the Impreza. Nobody over at the WRX forums knows.
