Guess I'm the only one, but seats puting the hurt on me... Ideas..??
Reading the board most people seem to have no problem at all with the front seats. Some even say it's the most comfortable seat they've ever been in.
Wow, Sorry to say I am definitely not in the category... I got my FR-S on Saturday and when I took the test drive I just wasn't paying attention to the seating. Just pumped for the take out... After settling down when I got the car I realized this one rough ride, at least for me it is. Was able to fix for the most part the actual seat just by getting good seat cushion. Though not what I was looking to do for a new car, not the greatest look. But what I can't change and is a real problem are the sides on the back support. The are pressing on me just too much. I know how many say they feel so snug and secure in them. I really can't take it.. So just don't know what to do. Called Scion and they have no alternative seating. I know there are aftermarket outlets that may have something I can use. but from what I've seen, the aftermarket looks even more extreme than what the car comes with. My last 2 cars are a 2000 Toyota Celica and and 2006 Mit Ecilpse. Had no problem at all with those seats. I know they weren't true race car seats as the FR-S aims to be. So if anyone has any ideas would be greatly appreciated? Maybe there is some aftermarket seating that would help out.. Thanks Last edited by JohnnyNight; 10-10-2012 at 12:38 AM. |

Get some extra padding , I know some people did that on here and it helped .
But If you think these are bad you should sit in real race car seats I-Tapatalk |

That's what I figured about the real race car seats... I'm sure they have a purpose on the race track.. but that's not where I realistically intend to spend most of my time...
It's cool to have a seat that looks like a race car seat, but it's bustin me up all over... If I could put my 2006 Mit Eclipse seats in the FR-S I would be very happy... I read a review by a guy that he and his wife did a 400 mile trip in Louisiana and they felt pretty beat up by the time they got home, he said though on a nice Florida road it should be no problem. Sorry guys but I feel pretty beat up on a 10 minute nice Florida road ride. Think if someone put together a pre-fabricated padding kit it might be a nice seller.. Had the same problem myself when I 1st got the car but after a few weeks I guess I just got used to them that its no longer a problem !

Look at some of Bride or Recaro's non-extreme-performance seats. Both companies are known for their race buckets that squeeze you like a clamp, but they also make some more relaxed options that are still kinda sporty as well.
For example... Recaro Sports Bride Euro or Euroster Just be aware that 99.999% of aftermarket seating will eliminate the side airbag you have in the stock seat. Only one I've seen that comes with its own airbag is the Recaro Sportster CS version imported from Europe (the US model does NOT have the universal airbag option). But from what I hear, that seat is as constricting as the stock one, so it may not work for you. |

I find that if I lean the seat back just a bit it is more comfortable. I usually have it basically straight up and down but for long trips I tilt it back like a click or two. Usually fixes my issue.

Give it some time. At first I wasnt happy with the seats. Now they are fine. Guess it's just getting used to something different.

I think alot of the problems that people are having with the seats is that they are sitting in them either 1) like crap, improper posture (stop laughing, I'm serious) or 2) they are used to sitting in a certain position in their old cars, and don't realize this isn't ideal for this car. I had a 4-hour road trip last month and had zero problems.
This is my recommendation for seating position, it works great for me, your results may vary: -Butt back all the way in the seat. -Back not straight up, but upright, any over-recline will mess you up. -Sitting up straight (lack of arm rest makes this fairly easy, nowhere else to go) -seat height at the lowest setting (or a couple notches up) so that your heels rest comfortably with your feet on the pedals. Move the seat back and forth to make this possible. -Shoulders resting on the shoulder bolsters, not being pushed forward by them or separated from them. -Wheel should be positioned so that when you have both hands on the wheel (9 & 3 or 10 & 2), your elbows should be bent (as everyone learned in Driver's Ed.) The rest is simple ergonomics. If you are going to be in the car for a while, you need to ensure that your back retains its normal curvature while you are seated. For some, this might require some lumbar support (thankfully for me it does not). |

You're not the only one. I drove my FR-S straight through to Atlantic City the week after I bought it (150 miles), and when I got out of the car, my back was NOT happy.
Honestly, the seats are one of my favorite, yet most hated things on this car. Not having a positional memory makes me nuts, and the discomfort on really long trips is exactly that: uncomfortable. Once I rally up some cash, I plan on looking into a set of Recaros. I absolutely love the support and look of the stock seats, but I need a seat that offers that support, with a bit more functionality. |

The anti-whiplash headrests are the issue. They are tilted forward to prevent whiplash if you crash while seated in the fullee sik laid back position, but push your neck forward of your spine's plane of alignment at all other times.
Easiest solution for the OP is probably to check and see if Impreza or Liberty seats bolt in (distinct possibility given the origins of the car). If they do, I'm sure you'll have plenty of people wanting to swap. |

I drove roughly 700kms straight and I didn't feel a thing, my Benz made me way more tired last I did the same trip on it,
most of you guys haven't been in any uncomfortable cars , this aint no caddy I-Tapatalk |

I regularly drive a 300mile round trip and have a few back issues (compressed disks and damaged muscles in my lower back).
I found myself warn out from the one way portion of that trip, as someone who has made many cross country trips I found it odd that this car was causing me so much pain and fatigue. I figure out that the should bolstering was what was causing my discomfort, and swapped my driver side seat out for a wider after market seat. I have had no issues since installing it. |

No, I'm not lookin for a caddy...
But I will take a Lincoln if available... circa 1972.. those seats would have weight equal to about the whole FRS. Ricepuddin... What seat did you get.. WIDE sounds NICE...!! |

The seats hurt me too in the beginning. After loosing 20lbs and them breaking in, all's good. I know it's not the answer your looking for but I do look better 20lbs. lighter.
