This bothers me, Scion is still waiting for parts but then Subaru Canada says "no need for parts, just wait for ECM software update"? Is there a lack of communication somewhere?

Also this from another thread here:
took it to the dealership and said here, lol. they then recorded all the engine issues with this freeze frame tech. and sent it to a engineer at toyota corp. and they responded and said ECU need to be replaced with new software. so now i went from driving a FRS to a Matrix to a corrolla and now im in a yaris. trying to figure out how they should compinsate me what you guys think.....?

I wonder if subaru will do the same for me. i just paid them 30 grand for this car in hawaii, my BRZ has 23xx miles, my serial number is no where near the others, and to date im the only one in hawaii with this problem. Before reading this thread I took it in, still didnt give me the choice of having a rental yet after 24 hours. I was about to lose it today until i read this.

Print out the first post in this thread and present it to your service writer and say "This is a serious problem you folks need to address right away" and as far as a rental, I didn't get mine until the 2nd day. Once they determine they're going to have to keep your car for a while they will get you your rental.

Call Subaru Headquarters and log a complaint with them too.

I've already sent a PM to Moto-P about this thread, actually asked him to comment but there's been no acknowledgement.

Message to Toyota/Subaru: The silence is deafening; this lack of forthright communication to your paying customers about this issue reveals something significant, and disturbing about what the road ahead could look like for us

Oahu. Subaru and toyota are at the same place in mapunapuna im not sure if its servco or not. the car was bought at waialae subaru though. I finally got a call back from someone at subaru they said theyre forwarding my info to technical people its the passenger side exchaust timing valve the

00017 Code
VIN:6029xx
Mileage 2400
Not fixed yet problem has been ongoing for 48 hours, he said theyre gonna have to take it apart, and that although they are releasing a new ECU at the end of the month, he doesnt think its a related problem.

Something about this ECU solution doesn't give me a warm and fuzzy (at least without a better explanation from Toyota/Subaru). The error comes up because the ECU has detected a difference between where it thinks the cam gear's timing is and where it should be.

So does this mean that the something within the ECU is generating a fault where there is none, or are they widening the "window" for an acceptable deviation between the two readings (basically fudging it)?

POSTING RULES
While this idle issue may manifest itself as an initial dip, please only add your name if you have experienced a combination of the check engine light (CEL) and slip light (SL) in addition to the RPM hunting at idle (often severe shaking and stalling). The code your ECU should have stored is P0019 (also optional P0017, P0018 or related cam codes).

Please post the following:
username, FR-S or BRZ, mileage of occurrence, last six of VIN (use XX for last two), duration of repair [3 weeks, in shop, etc.], location [state, country, etc.], other comments [repeat occurrence, items replaced, etc.]

Please let me know if you would like to see additional information. Also, please keep the postings on topic and for the list only. The "Idle Issue" thread is good for general discussion. Thanks everyone.

FR-S catches fire? (www.ft86club.com)

And the plot thickens!

FR-S catches fire?

Quote:
I picked up my FR-S 2 two weeks ago and this is now a full week without it. The miss fire in the engine caused the exhaust to fill with gas and then burn. The whole left end of the car melted off the back and melted most of the spare tire foam. Now I'm stuck with out a car for another few weeks due to back ordered parts. Has anyone else had a Engine issue like this yet?
Quote:
They Asked me allot of questions. They had told me they had engineers fly in over night and then they two days later called Subaru. So it seemed pretty serious. They said the gas was making pretty far back but not to the muffler just was so hot it still melted.
Quote:
I HAVE IT!!! The official word from the engineers from Toyota, the VVT failed, In turn led to the fuel not buring and going into the exhaust system and then finally burning off in the converter. Apparently there was a solenoid and the actuator not within the tolerance levels.

Call Scion customer service and have yourself put into a rental. Its not worth driving your car and screwing it up worse.

For those owners like me don't have a problem yet, and worry about the CEL and shaking will come in any moment, looking at the rpm every signal stop...does any one know if there is a overall recall coming along soon?
