^^ oh yeah, its hard to say enough about the men and women assigned to TEAM 86. I had the distinct pleasure of meeting several of them (via the first86 program/contest), and everyone was absolutely thrilled about the platform and this project. To see so much excitement come out of a brand (Toyota) that I typically associate with being boring and stuffy, it was remarkable. Ive got to hand it to both Toyota and Subaru on this car, because they won me over. As a Mazda fanboy for the past decade, prior to the 86 I would have never in a million years considered daily driving ANY Toyota nor ANY Subaru.

that's exactly the negative side to being a fanboy, it narrows your vision. i appreciate the rx-7, the gt-r, the 86, and the impreza sti. they're all great cars created by great companies, i'm just glad that we've got a wonderful choice. I can't wait till the new NSX and Supra are released!

Hehe, I have to say the same. I may have owned several Toyotas in the past, but I have also owned a few Nissans, a few Mazdas, a BMW and an Audi, so my allegiance could have gone anywhere. They have created a brilliant replacement for my MR2 and 240Z, so I can give at least one of them up and have a new, warrantied, (hopefully) trouble-free car that I can spend more time driving than wrenching on!

FYI, I'm fairly certain the Scion badged wheel caps say subaru on the inside.

That's a nice looking car...both of them! Why can't Honda make something that looks even half as good as the FR-S/BRZ? I need a new car soon dammit.

The Scion nose and trunk badges are made by Subaru; they are marked 'Subaru' on the back of them.

Big difference between "designed" and "manufactured".
No doubt this car came from the mind of Toyota.

Toyota is the concept originator. As a matter of fact, it did not start out as a joint project. Toyota was going it alone. However, Mr. Toyoda who is himself a sports car enthusiast was not entirely satisfied with the early FT-86 prototypes. He wanted something that would handle even better and sent the engineers back to the drawing boards. To improve the handling, they had to lower the center of gravity even further and they figured they could do that with a flat engine that sits low to the ground. And guess who the boxer specialist in Japan? So yes, the car is built by Subaru but it's not your typical Subaru and looks like no other Subarus...because it's a Toyota by design.
