New in 1993 a MR2 GT-S cost what, like $21.5k? In 2011 money that is ~$33.5k. |

It's too early to tell much of anything.
I'll reserve judgment for the actual production car, although I have to admit I am a little disappointed to see that the Mk II appears to be the inspiration. |

Think that's spot-on judging from the camo pic. The one thing that really irks me is how the hood opening looks now. In the concepts the hood opening conforms to the contours of the car, in this it just arbitrarily cuts across the front. Can hope that the camo is covering where the hood actually opens, but I dunno...

If it's at the way front as in the MKI, that'd be perfect, but if that were the case I don't see why the opening on the camo would be so much higher. Guess we'd just have to wait and see for that one.

I don't worry too much about the lines because Toyota will go with a little aggressive lines like they did with Venza, New Yaris, et al. I'm worried about the light. The taillight got me worry the most about the car.

the licenseplate indicates nothing, it can be used for multiple cars and is common for mule cars tested on the Ring
this comes from "Auto, Motor und Sport": The proposed 2012 compact sports car from Toyota is on its test laps on the Nordschleife. We have hit the Toyota Celica's successor with Boxer engine and rear wheel drive. In April 2008, Toyota and Fuji Heavy (Subaru) announced the expansion of their cooperation. At that time the target is spent to provide end 2011/beginning 2012, a compact sports car on wheels that will come to a relatively low price to Europe. Successor for the Toyota Celica 2012 Toyota stopped, therefore, on its shares in Fuji Heavy from 8.7 to 16.5 percent. The new sports car will appeal to the end of 2011 a wide class of customers, and is built in a purpose built factory in the Japanese province of Gumma. The platform and the engine controls for Subaru, while Toyota is responsible for the design of the little athlete. Unlike the other Subaru models of the 4.27-meter-long compact sports car is, however, do not come with all-wheel drive but on the market. Under the hood, a two-liter boxer engine from Subaru provide propulsion. Refined with direct injection technology from Toyota to the four-cylinder making 200 hp. It is shifted via a manual six-speed transmission or a six-speed automatic transmission. A limited-slip differential ensures traction on the rear axle. Toyota Celica with 300-horsepower turbo Who knows the engine range of donors Subaru engine, but may well imagine that even a turbo version could be offered with 300 hp. The new compact sports car, Toyota will bring a successor of the 2012 Toyota Celica on the market. The look of the new features the athlete presented at the Tokyo Motor Show sports car study FT-86 IMAGINE.a evolutionary stage, there was at the Geneva motor show and then see a Scion at the New York Auto Show. source: http://www.auto-motor-und-sport.de/n...2-1431111.html |

Test Mule vs. Production
if you want to get a better idea of what the production car will look like, look at the ft-86II that was shown in geneva. the fr-s shown at the ny auto show is a true "concept" while the ft-86II is 90% production ready in terms of "sheetmetal". the car your seeing there is 95% production ready, its not a mule anymore.
suspension testing is what your seeing there. they will run about close to 10+k miles on the ring in less than a month. in the process they will see and compare data recorded on fuji. one of the things you might see during testing in future photos will be different wheel and tire set ups. the car i was told if driven incorrectly has a tendency to snap oversteer, the suspension will be tuned to over but not to the point where the average driver won't be able to control it. they will test whether calibration or the need for a wider set up for the rear will help. that's where the rings multiple turns come in, the track is great for data gathering. |

Definitely the best de-camo job yet, bravo!
This reaffirms my analysis that the car appears to be mostly FT-86 II with the nose of the original FT-86 concept. Those that *hate* the front fender vent may not be in for good news down the road. Personally, I'm waiting to see all the flesh before making a final call on the aesthetics.
