One problem after another...

I'm getting same CEL over & over from my car... from reading other member's experiences, sounds like timing belt might be the cause... FML gotta fix it ASAP

Makes you feel any better, both of my cars broke down this week. Did an oil change last week in my Z but left one of the fittings for my oil cooler hoses loose, and dropped 4-5 qts of oil in a restaurant parking lot. Then, drove my Mazda6 down the next day to repair the Z, and the 6 has a busted coolant hose, can't hold antifreeze, and overheats. I fixed the Z, but the 6 is going to the shop tomorrow. Add to that, a close relative went into the hospital this week and work has sucked...

So feel better lol

Yeah, my friend got in the wreck while he was working (car wreck) and currently in hospital too. BUT he's just getting checked and nothing bad.

Hope your friend gets better

Just wondering, on a healthy clutch, how much do you need to release the pedal before it "bites"? About how much of the pedal travel is "useful"?

Grab point varies on the vehicle or who installed the clutch. When I put my clutch in I set the grab point reaaaaally low, like an inch and a half from the bottom.

By grab point, you mean the point where it's going to give you useful acceleration, not the point where it starts rolling on a flat road right? How much "useful pedal travel" do you have? What I mean by that is, how much pedal travel do you have available for adjusting, say for hill starts.

I drove this car that "bit" maybe like 1.5 inches from the top of the pedal stroke, and smooth starts were f***ing impossible.

I like that... on the FIT the grab point was probably 3-4 inches off the floor. Or pretty much near the top.

Well I'm unsure how far it can be adjusted but originally my clutch would grab around 2.5" from the floor and there's a bolt you can adjust by the firewall that changes the engagement point. And by grab point I meant the point where you feel the engine bog (so the moment it starts to grab).

I know exactly what you guys mean -_-. My gf's civic grabs about an inch from the top and because of how used to my car I always launch it like a noob the first time I pull off cause I was expecting it to grab already .

Isn't it that the grab point for FR-S is set pretty high? Come to think of it, my current ride has the grab point set pretty high. It is a the last 1/3 of the travel of clutch. My car does not move for the first half of the clutch travel from the floor. One I passed the mid point and then it is getting close to the grab point.

The first thing of driving a manual car is to find its grab point of the clutch. Once you get there, you can adjust your left foot for the smooth transition.

I would think this is more or less a personal preference thing. Some people prefer low grab point while others don't. I personally do not favor one or the other, as long as I know where the grab point is for this car, I am ok.
