10 year old BRZ - Replace all hoses?
My BRZ turns 10 in November and I plan to run it til it or me drops dead.
Question about the longevity of radiator hoses, heater tubes, etc. I believe in proactive maintenance and don’t want to be stranded somewhere due to a failure of a $30 hose. What is a suggested interval for replacing all rubber hoses? |

After coolant replacement (10 years/100kmiles). Good time to replace the radiator cap/neck assembly and thermostat.

depends on the conditions they're subjected to. have you looked at them?

I picked up 2013 brz in jan 2013 and currently it has 55k. As long as hoses dont leak and look in good condition, should be fine. Replacing with new anyway? Why not! New is eliminating future problem anyway.

I'm in a similar boat; 70k 11 years old. I had a very similar question recently and all the above was the same feedback I got. If you're parked outside in really hot dry desert conditions all the time you probably need to replace rubber parts sooner than if you're parked in a garage in more moderate climate. But if the hoses still feel soft and rubbery then they're probably perfectly fine. If you see a bit of cracking or they feel dry and hard, certainly consider replacing. If it's a matter of convenience during other work and/or provides peace of mind, then by all means have at it.

I remember with my 2004 WRX, when I did the radiator as precautionary maintenance around 125k (they're well known to split at the end tanks past this interval) I did the hoses too. This was in 2016, so the hoses had 12 years and 125k on them.
I think it really depends on the hose and even construction in 2004 vs probably 10 years later. Generally speaking, I'd inspect them visually. Mine were looking kinda ratty and old. If yours looks ok and are pliable, I'd just run them. Maybe if you're doing a coolant change and really want to change them, do it then - because you don't want to be doing a coolant change to last the next 60k+ and have to redo it all again to replace the hoses in 2 years/20k. There are other hoses, but many less than a WRX. I know on that car all the ones around the turbo were well cooked, hard, and literally breaking if you pushed on them at 125k and 12 years. I replaced all of them, but the BRZ doesn't have that. Absolutely do check and replace your PCV valve and even associated lines/hoses that usually come with the OEM PCV valve part number. People always forget this even exists. Should be really changed every 30k and speaking of which, mine is due now that it's at 40k.
