Fit! The thing is the fitment. The fitment fits tightly.
A government governs. A procurement is procured. An establishment is established.

One of the guys on GRM paid his dealer, Subaru of Jacksonville, to pull the pan (1.7 hours). When they pulled the pan they found RTV in the pickup, SOA covered the resealing the pan/timing cover under warranty.
Anyone else tried this?

Car is still under warranty and anything that happens related to RTV in the pickup goes directly back to the dealer repair. Doesn't seem to be anymore risk than hoping it doesn't happen from the factory build..........that you know, already had RTV in the pickup.

Yes/no. At that point it is a workmanship issue with the dealer and it could be forced between you and them. We saw this with people getting screwed on the J02 recall and not getting covered after a failure.

By having the timing cover off you actually increase the risk of failure. This has been proven time and time again with the first gen and doesn't change now. It also reduces the probability that it will be covered under warranty since the manufacturer wash their hands of it and the dealer just denies any wrong doing. This also has been documented very well with the first gen. The problem with doing the timing cover is not just having excess that breaks off but having too much in the wrong spot that blocks channels. The sealant in the pickup is obvious but I still can not believe that it is the whole or even major part of the problem. Something else in the system is blocking but as soon as people see the pickup they just stop and say "oh there's the issue". Besides any that is going to break off from the timing cover is likely already in the pan as soon as the system hits high pressure the first time. If people must have the pickup checked for peace of mind then have them pull the pan, inspect the tube, clean if needed and reinstall the pan. That's it. Leave the timing cover alone! If the factory robot can't get it right then trusting a tech to do it is not going to be an improvement.

It's a nice piece. But the only problem is, just like using an aftermarket oil pan baffle, if something happens as soon as they drop the pan and see that, warrant claim denied.

Right. This piece, like any engine part, is not for those wanting to preserve the warranty. It's for the other people, like me, who know the warranty will be useless because of the naughty things we do :P

The days of being able to push a car to it's design limits and if something breaks just going in and saying "I don't know it just broke" are long gone. As we have seen several times the tech now allows the dealer the know exactly how the car was driven right up to the point of failure. Something like your baffle and pickup are a great way to mitigate some of the risk of tracking the car. When the big picture comes into play it is likely a better way to go when you know you will be pushing the limits than trying to rely on warranty to cover any failures. The whole thing is a classic case of you can't have your cake and eat it too!
