I bought and assembled an IKEA dining table.

The 2nd to last step was a pain in the ass. I probably spent 45 mins or so on it and still couldn't quite get it 100% (retaining square thing that goes between the four legs and over 8 bolts, which you then tighten through the middle, which is super cramped.

I double-checked with a level if not getting it 100% sat on the bolts would be ok, and the level said 0 deg. So I tightened everything up, flipped the table right-side up, and then checked if it was sturdy and then if the level continued to read 0 deg; both were good.

I dunno why IKEA stuff is always so unnecessarily challenging.

I had a friend who was a carpenter. I needed work at the time and he had these days of subcontracting where we would do mattress inspections (warranty stuff) and build (mostly Ikea) furniture for people. After a few weeks it was like building legos but yeah definitely some stuff is awkward. We did have 2 of us at least always together because we rode in the same van.

For the most part it wasn't a super difficult or complicated build. One other thing that annoyed me was that in the beginning they had a diagram where it clearly looked like some screws needed washers. So I used half the washers that came in the box. Then later on I get to another step that needs all of the included washers and I'm like what the heck. Then I realize there's already sort of a molded surface that looks kind of like a washer where the first bolts went in and I realized you're not supposed to use washers there. But the first diagram clearly showed a separate ring placed on the threaded hole lol.

I did it by myself but the instructions said two people were required lol. Maybe it would've been easier with someone else lol.

Like my Norton Commando 750 with no electric starter. Had to go with the lightbulb when a neighbor ratted me out to the landlord for parking the bike in the dining room. I got even when I told the landlord about her five cats. I knew she was bad news when she put all her boyfriend’s stuff in garbage bags and threw it out on the lawn while he was at work. I let him sleep on my couch for a week and that first Saturday I introduced him to my girlfriend’s besty. By Monday he moved in with her. Ha! Nothing raises a guy’s stock price like when another woman shows some interest. And… it turned out that he was allergic to cats anyway. And the ball sailed right between the goalposts for the extra point!

I know someone who posted the wrong photo on a singles dating site and could not remove it. Lesson learned, some selfies are best not taken. Fortunately, an administrator erased the faux pas and said that her submission was hardly the worst screwup he had seen. However, her being on that dating site was short lived. Apparently, everyone puts up photos that are very misleading, much like the hamburger 🍔 you get looks nothing like the photo on the menu. Where’s the beef?

ikea is terrible. their light fixtures are european style, meaning that it's just a bucket and a cord, and i always end up spending an hour building a mounting system for them...

their 'high end' kitchen cabinets all use these chintzy plastic thread-up/down adjusters to 'shim' the cabinets to the proper height. the same plastic adjusters that many shipping companies use for temporary product support....
