Identify shifter, OEM vs Short Throw

Any fool proof method to determine shifter equipped?

Purchased vehicle used, trying to determine if shifter is OEM or not.

there are a bajillion youtube videos of people all excited about their short throw shifters. The difference is super obvious.

While reaching into the car (not sitting in the car), try to move the gear from 1st to neutral or 3rd to neutral.

If this is pretty challenging, and you throw past neutral and gate into 2nd or 4th, you probably have a short shifter.

A lot of the short shifters on the market will resemble the stock one. Easiest way to determine would be to compare with a stock car.

You may pull the shift boot, take a picture and post it. The top plate covering the ball/cup assembly and the hardware may not look stock. Someone may not be able to identify the brand, but will be able to tell if it is stock or not.

Example of short shifters. Besides the IRP and the Billet Pro Shop shifter, the others have mechanisms that closely resemble the stock one.
