Yeah after reading some messages and comments I realize that I sound like the newbie that thinks he knows a lot when there are people with years and years of experience and research hahaha.... oops I'm definitely super impatient and I find it super hard to take my time before making decisions. I also have to get out of the street car mentality... I just bought Advan RG3 wheels as my street set... I thought I would feel immense pressure on track with the Varis kit, but honestly I was having so much fun that losing the kit was the last thing on my mind. I bet everyone in motorsports has had their off track excursions though so I hope mine won't cost me too much! |

You need both talent and money to play with the big boys. Racing is just a big money pit, so you better be ready to throw away a lot of money.
I think you're better off spending your money on some driving schools such as Skip Barber. You'll be able to get a feel of where you stand compared to your competition. You'll realize pretty quickly if you need to spend more time/money on your driving ability or in building the car. |

Having big dreams and goals is great but seat time is all that matters. I'm not here to shit on your dreams, getting to GTA is one of mine too.
A decent bare bones minimum track day setup: grippy 200utqg and lower extreme summer/track tires (Think toyo r888, advan a052, ao48, ad08, falken rt615, michelin pilot sport cup 2, potenza re71r, direzza star spec, etc etc you get the idea) firehawks are not really up to par with any of the tires i listed. Track pads/fluid. I use carbotech's and motul fluid. upgraded lines and a master cylinder brace are nice but not needed if you're on a budget. caliper upgrades are nice but you're probably not at the level of driver skill yet that would benefit from this. oil cooler is a must. even though you're in Canada and it's colder than the states, the oil temps are important to monitor and keep low so you're oil pressure doesn't drop. Then get as much seat time as you can. autocross, track days, mountains, whatever it is, do it and get help and ride alongs from people who are seasoned. GTA is a great long term goal, but you can't really just jump into it. Good luck man! keep us updated.

Update
Next track day coming in a couple weeks at Mission Raceway!
I will be purchasing a set of 215/45 Hankook Ventus R-S4 tires for the stock wheels that I'll be running at the track day. Still haven't decided whether to mount the Fortune Auto 500 coils and get an alignment before, or after the track day. StopTech Sport Performance Pads are still fresh, and I have fresh fluids from after my first track day so I should be pretty set for a great day! |
