My point is you said a straight six puts weight at the end and makes for a poor performing car. I’m telling you that Lambos and Ferraris with V12’s have essentially two slant sixes glued together, thus by logical inference, you must believe they have even worse performance. Moreover, I named a number of cars with straight sixes that dominated in racing and are amazing handling cars.

The notion that an engine configuration can ruin the performance of a car is laughable. Chevrolet, while probably keeping a v8, is changing the positioning of their engine to squeeze every bit of performance out of their flagship but the current version isn't exactly a slouch. In fact, it competes with, and beats mid engine supercars.
The same applies for straight six engines and everything else. You simply move shit around to make up for the offset in weight and/or adjust the suspension setup accordingly. Look at the 911. Placing an engine in the rear of the vehicle is in theory, a horrible idea but they seem to pull it off just fine. |

Also, there are engineering solutions to difficult problems like how could the GTR have an inline six and an AWD system, but not have the engine sticking three feet in front of the front axles? They used this setup just like what BMW uses in its AWD sedans: ![]() BMW ![]() Here is the WRX's drivetrain. They use a flat opposed 4 like a v4, but to have AWD, they made the transmission inline with the front axle, so the engine sticks forward like below.

I’m gonna let this end because a joke became too off topic, and I feel like I am talking to a wall.

Side note: for anyone reading Jalopnik, I love how the peanut gallery there is so quick to bust Toyota's balls (and Honda/Acura) for the "lengthy" gestation of the next gen Supra and NSX, but I'm not seeing anything about the mid-engine Corvette even though it's been rumoured or teased at some point or another for decades.
