If I was having this problem, I'd just go with ol @Ultramaroon 's suggestion and replace them all with OEM parts. Reminds me of the time that I went to replace the spark plugs and spark plug wires on my old Chevrolet. A one hour job, even with making the wires from scratch ….. right? Somewhere along the line I got the wires crossed up and when I fired that puppy up, big backfires happened. It dawned on me that I didn't know the firing order of that engine. Nope, no maintenance manual, no operators manual, no internet. Now, try to get ahold of someone, with only a 10 party land line phone, on a Sunday, that would know the firing order of stove bolt 6 engine. Trial and error was not an option, since my last two attempts resulted in me trying to blow the muffler off and the carburetor off. Since I was only, 14, none of my friends knew shit about engines. Finally, my uncle had one of his mechanics call me and gave me the firing order. THE END humfrz |

In either case, I spend plenty of time jiggling the wheel to allow it to line up in rotation as I hand-tighten the nuts.
I've used antiseize/grease plenty of times but then the torque wrench goes out the window. I'm confident enough in my own skill but I don't suggest others do it.

Maybe you missed it, so I’ll say it again. I’ve busted the ARP extended stud & not OEM studs. I must be VERY strong or that ARP are defect. My guess is on the 2nd one.

I didn't miss it. You didn't say they were longer than OEM. I'm just saying there isn't anything magical about the ARP studs.

Not saying they’re magical, but it’s hellova better than OEM ones.

Meh. I bet they're comparable. Any seized fastener will twist off.

A harder/better fastener is not always better. For such a simple device, there's a lot going on. You've got various force vectors, friction, heat cycles, fatigue, particulates, corrosion, etc. Its a bit much for me to explain in more detail and give examples at the moment, unfortunately (at my mom's retirement party lol). The OEM torque specification was calculated and tested on OEM lugs with OEM lugnuts. If you change something of those, it's possible that you have now made that specification incorrect.

You make a good point. 89 ft/tq was for OEM studs spec vs ARP stud might have lower or higher tq lvl. I should check on that...
